i picked up a bargain, Furuno LS 4100 for $300 now what i want to know is, how water proof are they? is it possible to get a water proof case for it as my tinny gets a bit of water in it heading out to the shallow reefs

thanks for that, i just looked at the 2nd pic down the bottom, and it gives me an indication that it would be a little water proof as he has his sounder well above the rail on his boat. Thanks frank

Sounders are waterproof to a certain point only, they'll cop a bit of spray etc but if you really want to look after the unit suggest you enclose it in a case.

In that enclosed space I also have radio , MP3 player , fuse box & switch panel, all the stuff I dont like seeing get wet.
Another thing you should be doing is smearing all plugs to sounder etc with grease, this will stop brass fittings fron tarnishing which it turn will lead to bad contact points.

Where did you pick this up? was it new?

They should be 100% water proof.
I wash both of mine off after every trip ( salt water ), while doing rest of the boat at carlovers with the soapy broom & rince with the gun from a distance.
none in either of my Lowrances & 1 is an old x75, the other is a lcx25c.
