My Navman Sonar/Map combo suddenly stopped working last week. Would not aquire the satelite signals.

It has also had a small amount of condensation inside the glass for the past 6 months. As the condensation did not affect my viewing of the screen I did not worry about it.

I took it back to Navco at Lane Cove where the service manager readily agreed to fix the unit under warranty. (purchased 2 Jan 2007) and also told me that some of the units sold in early 2007 (and before) had faulty seals but that it was a simple matter to replace the face with one having a sound seal.

He also mentioned that there had been some isolated problems with the circuit boards and that this was probably the most likely source of the problem with my set. If so, the board would be replaced with a new one. I should get the unit back this week and will post details of what they found.

My reason for posting this Thread is that if anyone else has a similar unit and it has some condensation behind the glass during operation it would be worhtwhile to take it back to Navco and let them replace the Face/seal etc.

Maybe the condensation in my set caused the circuit board to malfunction?

And DC, this is the reason that I haven't called you to come out fishing in the Seafairey tonight.

Yeah Right! :yahoo:

I'd be a bit concerned about condensation Haji...maybe as navman has admitted there is a fault with the seal on the unit has it had salt water enter it and if it has the unit will be pretty well stuffed, can replace the board but how about any metal components that aren't part of the board like connectors, flexi from board to screen, etc.....I'd be wanting a replacement especially as the head of service has admitted it is a common fault-they should've issued a recall!:2gunsfiring_v1:

I think that Navman may be reading this site Jason for I have just been advised that they are sending a replacement unit instead of repairing the old one.

Now that's service for you!

Haji, I second your happiness on getting a replacement, I would have settled for that or a full refund.....

In my years working for Sony service we were told never to admit there was a fault with any of the products-always told to say it was very rare, a one off or this is a fault we have never seen before, the second you say its a common fault you may as well say the brand is constructed by morons and using very cheap and nasty components and that spreads very quickly and once the media gets involved someones livelihood will be on the line. :1yikes:

That service manager won't have his job for long if anyone in the company gets wind of his honesty, when you pick up your replacement unit do him a favour and tell him to keep his mouth shut in future as comments like his while being honest can be the cause of many $$$$ lost for his employer and possibly the loss of his income!

Yeah harsh comments but thats business hey!:wtf:
