My mate called me yesterday avro to head into the Hawkesbury. Im always keen so i got my boat ready and at 6.30 we were driving to Bayview in the pouring rain getting funny looks from other drivers while stuck in terrible traffic due to the Wakehurst Parkway being closed.
As expected there was not another trailer in sight down at the ramp, so we launched into the coffee coloured water and were on our way.
Pouring rain left us with about 20 metres visibility. I dont use Pittwater often, but ive never seen it with so much chop and swell. It took us 1 hr to get to West Head, which is normally a 10- 15 min ride.The swell was massive and hitting us side on making it pretty uncomfortable. We finally arrived just on dark, dropped anchor and baits. Then the wind started blowing. Dont mind the rain but i hate the wind even though we were protected from the covers.
A Gummy shark came up after about 10 min, bloody annoying.
To make things worsemy mate who has a back problem for years now tells me he cant really move good due to the bashing around from the swell. After it started affecting his neck we decided that was it. It was only 9.30.
The problem was that the weather had gotten much worse and he said there was no way we could go back through Pittwater due to back so we called someone to come to Akuna Bay to drop me off to my car at Bayview and then drive back to Akuna so i can get my boat. It wasnt fun getting back to Akuna Bay, it was pitch black along the water.
Home at 12.30 a.m. scratching my head wondering why i even answered his bloody phone call that afternoon.
The only positive was that i didnt have to clean the boat.
All in all, at least it was an experience to go through just once.
Could be worse, i could be addicted to playstation or bloody x-box!!!
