View Full Version : syd harbour monday 11th
got up @ 3.30 am.
got about 10 yakkas.
headed to wedding cake, shark island, yellow marker, south head.
fished till 12pm
livies were unweighted
also used squid strips. saw no action. had no action. caught nothing.
didnt really see anyone catch anything.
rain may have shut it down.
caught my anchor and thought it was a ray or something.
i'm pissed off. if i here of another person casually catching a king on a prawn or pillie i'm going to explode.
arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
i want blood!

dont mean to laugh really, that is painful Garth.. just dont want it to be my blood you're baying for :rolling laughter:
Im feelin for you mate
the water is bloody murky.... did you have any livies down deep under some weight?? the marker kings are usually deeper.....
na mate didnt have any deep.
just one on the surface and then some squid strips down deep.
i'll set some deep next time.
i probably should have hedged my bet and had one of the surface and one down deep. However, whenever i have livies out they swim where ever i dont want them to haha. ie.. wanna fish out the back and the thing swims round the anchor at the bow or around the one lines i have out. so i try to keep it simple lately so im not stuffing about with lines all day.
the other week was three of us with a live bait each and it was pretty tough to not get tangled.
does any one else get this and more importantly have a solution. i guess the only solution would be lead and boat size/layout (i.e might not be as much a problem in a cc)

lead and balloons are the answer. keep a few deep and then put some out the back under balloons with just a little bit of lead to slow them down.....
and dont put slimies out without a bit of extra weight or there will be tangles again..
and if you had squid down deep it should have gone off just as much as a yakka.....
weird day....
maybe they've just shut down cos they were belted on the weekend...???
also, if i had a downrigger do ya reckon that would improve my chances?
so many guys doing it and seem to get results.
i just can't justify spending the cash when i cant catch fish to start with
maybe the temps have dropped cause of the rain and slow their metabolisms?
it still felt warm though and i think my sound said it was 22 or something from memory.
thanks for tips mate.
i'll try the lead and floats next time.
Cheers,
garth

Hi Garth,
Shame about the lack of bites.
We fished the harbour today also and caught 1 legal, kingie, 2 underisze and had 3 big bust offs so the kingies were there. We were using a downrigger to get the baits deep, at least halfway.
cheers

garth you dont need a down rigger just use heavy sinkers to get you baits down and go slow.

Thats the way i do it. Its a poor mans down rigger.
I use 2-3 large ball sinkers a few inches apart.
