Don't know about this far south but there is few longtail tuna coming in off Tomaree Head at port stephens. Me and a mate had a successful outing on Monday. Lost one solid fish, and my mate landed a nice 15kg model. Seen two other tuna landed, live bait hard to get and the ledge was quite crowded.

A few of my customers have pics to show of blue fin tuna to 15kg and cobia to 20kg from avoca in the last 3 weeks up to yesterday, where a 16kg yft was caught.

Had another good outing off tomaree on sat. Mate got a nice mack tuna 5.5 kg. About 8 leaping bonito and 1 bonito between us ( pests kept stealing bloody livies). I finally got retribution for getting smashed up the week before by landing a tasty longtail tuna a touch over 10kg. The rest of the weekend was rubbish as the southerly turned a bit more eastly and the swell picked up. Anyway, theres always next weekend.
few good reports of YFT coming from Jervis Bay... I wonder when they are going to start heading north?
Whales are moving past Sydney already if that tells you anything.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does that tell you???
Whales are following the warmer water, Yellowfin usually follow them.
Thats it, whales usually tell you that the warm currents are starting to weighn. as the water temps drop most fish follow the water temps & food sources they like, or breeding patterns which are also based on temps & food mainly.
Well we are going out Friday so we will let you know if there are any fin.

For those who want to know about the fin for this weekend, a few boats went out during the week. One guy landed 2 mid sized yelllows around 30 and 35kg, as well as a huge striped tuna that looks at least 15+kg in the photo (will try to get them to post here), from just off the shelf out past the 12 mile, in 125 fathoms. They were trolling mcgoo saurie pattern in 8" and the bigger blue squidgy bluewater fish. He said there was heaps of bait though and if they could have stopped and cubed they would have but no bait and no downrigger. There are other stories of a guy who dropped a massive southern bluefin but cant confirm them. there were also a few makos about, one guy fishing for them on fly dropped three, but no idea of size. :jaws:
