I was up there last week, Coops. On the last day of fishing, I was tossing poppers and S.P's off the Laguna Keys northern breakwall. Loads of herring and krill at my feet. The water was about 50cm from my feet, when the biggest Mangrove jack I have seen, cruised up out of the deep water and smashed the herring at my feet. It was done ever so slowly. Next thing, there were six of them cruising up and down the edge, eating at their leisure. They wouldn't look at a lure, despite them being worked within inches of their noses. I was fishing 8lb, so it would have been hookup and gone within a split second, but worth trying.
In the afternoon, we went to my brother in law's bosses house to toss some lures in his 'lake'. It comes up to the steps of the house. Got three barra between 62 - 68cm. Tried poppers, nilsmasters and other hard bodies. All they would take, were black and gold S.P. shads.
Good luck on your trip. The rains have really started up again. My sister can't get to work in Proserpine, because the roads are cut. There's a pic of a 'sun shower' coming over Faust Dam. We made a run for the ramp before it hit. I have seen heavy rain before, but this rain was HEAVY.

Well what a trip, Got up to Airlie on wednesday and met up with my cousin who took me out drinking. A night of free drinks where ever we went was great. (why do you drink more when its free) the next day was hurting. Dur to all the rain and storms the water around airlie was murky so didnt get to fishat airlie. Over at Hamilton was not mush better. Due to the nonstop (and i mean nonstop) rain everywhere was brown around the island. My friend who operates the water sports said it was a waste of time and that a charter was better. Well due to the conditions the charters were not running. Great no fishing done at all, just sleeping drinking and swiming. Still had heaps of fun. will post photos soon.
