Hi guys new to the board.

I took the kids fishing (Boy 5 & girl 6) fishing on Sunday in the Hacking, what a top day. Being a bit windy we bottom bashed around Reddie Bay and they though it was tops catching baby snapper and the odd bream. Then we moved into Yowie Bay and my little boy wanted to use a float. I rigged him up and 1 minute latter he's shouting he's caught a "whopper". He was struggling to reel it in so I helped him, it was a 31cm Sweep. So now my little girl wanted to use a float so I rigged her up and she caught a 33cm Sweep and she made sure everybody knew her fish was bigger. That got my boy motivated he was not being out done so he kept trying till he landed a 32cm Bream. He reminded her that daddy said Sweep are no good to eat.

They informed me that they have to measure and identify every fish on the DPI fish identifer/ruler. A classic statement from my son after he could not find a sweep on the sticker "this sticker is rubbish I want a new one".

What a cheap day for so much fun. Bearly stolen from the dog and cat and the bait was a chicken breast from the freezer.

First time I have tried circle hooks. I have to say for kids they are excellent.

Cheers,

Grant.

Remember this was a kids fishing trip and this was their gear.
The float was the cheap round clip on style that came with his rod.

I had about 6 foot of trace and one small split shot sinker about 6" up from the hook.

Boat is a Blue Fin 4 mtr open V with a 30 Tohatsu 2st.

Very happy with the hull for the price it had lots of option included. e.g. fuel rack, 1/2 floot, bow and side rails, side pockets, x bollard, anchor shelf, etc.
Had it for 2 years now and for a cheap tinnie I would recommend them.

That smile on the boy's face...is almost bigger than that 32cm bream he brought up!!! Now that is what gets a kid hooked for life!! top catch...i bet he will never forget the day & will look back to it years down the track when he goes fishing again ;D
Even those two sweep wouldve been great fun...for a first fish, thats a good way 2 introduce the kids to some bread & butter fishing...not to mention making the most out of what youve got ie. the pet food as burley etc.
