Anyone know the best tint colour for fishing sunglasses ? I am getting some new polarized lenses and was wondering,I've been told grey or green by two different Optometrists......

Best brands for fishing - spotters/mako/maui jims.
i use MAko but also have spotters....

For normal light and depth recognition, bronze/ copper/ orange is the best. Allows you to see structure in the water AND get a resonable distance perception of where the structure is ... (how deep etc) Thats why driving glasses r orange.

for high light times - grey or blue and/or reflector ... in these you lose the distance perception but they cut more light @ midday for example

for low light - yellow, good depth recog but lets in heaps of light so no good during high sun.

Have a look at some spotters. my choice in them is the bronze penetrator photochromatic lens. (bronze lens, gets darker in high light - lighter in low light)
they have three lens types, glass, cr39 resin and poly plastic -- glass is the best by far.

expect to pay $270 for a glass bronze penetrator photochromatic lens

Cheers

Steff is correct, if you do all styles of fishing i suggest Bronze, if only blue water and they are for fishing only Grey...I run Maui jims, epic glasses, have a peep at their website :1yikes:

hi kingy i prefer the smoked lenses even on blue water as you can see through the water when it is clear.i use the brand ugly fish they are cheap around $60 you can get them from opsm.they have worked for me very well.they cut glare alot.im looking to upgrade to spotters soon but they are around the $200 to $300 mark in the smoked lenses as i find you can see well through clear water with smoked lenses.i use it when squidding and even driving.i find with a dark lense you cant see through clear water that well.

Kingy, are you getting just sunnies with standard lenses or prescription??? I'v always gone with grey in my prescription sunnies and have had n0 trouble seeing whats on the bottom.

I get all my polarized sunnies from the cancer council, prices from $40.
If you tend to go through them, scratch or lose them, then I wouldnt pay big dollars for a fishy brand. They have various colour lenses and styles to choose from.

Plus your supporting a worthwhile cause.

I use mako PHOTOCHROMATIC (better than polarised) that have a bronze/yellowish tint. Very happy with them. Grey is a good tint too.

i use nothing but MAKO! Latest pair were Castaways with Photochromatic in brown/bronze lense, i find them great for all levels of light ie dawn to dusk.

And have to brag I love the price i get ... wholesale -10%!!

Mako's are good but I got a bit tired of losing them & @ the price you pay for them ? well these days I stick to the cheaper glass's.

Funny thing you very rarely ever lose or break the cheaper oneseven had a pair for a whole 8 months B4 I lost them :rolling laughter:

Prob becauce I also fush offshore a bit I favour the amber coloured lenses in a light tint

Thank you all for your thoughtful suggestions. I ended up ordering Polarized, grey, single focus prescription ,high impact polcarbonite,60% tint from OPSM which cost $480. The "Drivewear" Photochromic would have added another 2-300,so I settled for less than a second mortgauge:bricks:
