launched @ 5.30 am.
proceed to collect yakkas
proceed to collect squid and cuttles.
move to spot 1 - mate lands a 70 cm king on a 2 - 4 kg set up.
proceed to spot 2 - quadripple hookup (land two @ 80cm + 67cm).
Mate looses both of his in the chaos. If you can't ceph then don't ****en come.

First blood - straight from the tandoor.

DC can i borrow a spare boat winch so i can get my kings in the boat?

Not worth posting photos, fish didnt fit in the frame.

No need for blacking out background of photos, fish are the background.

Don't bother going fishing in sydney tomorrow, i went today.

Why bother with double hookups when you can go quadripple.

If your pens run out of ink then come to me for refills.

Overheads inside are silly - get a beater.

My ears are sore - to match tail slapping on my deck.

Tandoors dirty and slippery - to much ink.

Esky is red - not with bitter.

Dioxins tonight - into my stomach.

Why celebrate the demise of pro's in the harbour - my weekly fish is the equivalent.

Home made game flags comming soon - hoist em high.

Paid out for fishing efforts by idiots @ work who catch toad fish - never again.

Reveal location of quadripple seriola grounds - roseville bridge.

35 cm bream - typical by-catch.

Kingfish charters - no need.

Buttfield and 2 Dans - thanks for the inspiration.

Do kennards hire chainsaws? - going to do cutlets now.

Mahi with silly head - watch out tandoor is coming for you soon.

i knife your ceph and cut my cutlet.

Over and out.

yeah just taking the piss fellas. glad no one took it seriously.

garth is a kinda nick name for me and not my real name. still a cool name though.

bass flicker you may be interested to know that i looked overboard and saw a perfect bass live bait (maybe?). It was a frog free swimming way out in the channel. Prob normal in a river or up a creek but i thought it was funny in the harbour.

Do live frogs hook bass?

Will try post some photos eventually. think the good ones are on my mates camera.

Fillets were the go as opposed to cutlets in my opinion for the ones i had last night. still both good tho. fish was real beautiful on the plate.

we only kept two fish @ 70cm and 67 cm and they fed 6 blokes and there is still some left. well conditioned fish.

saw 2 fellas at cleaning tables with 2 fat school jew caught outside probably 6-9 kg??.

Lovely post youve got there garth...what a crack-up, you deserve to win the SFFF Most Creative Post of the Year if it existed...are you sure you werent affected by the dioxins & it didnt make you feel funny *joking*

Classic post, just goes to show that the kingfish are closer than we think sometimes, & i bet a few of us drive past that bridge without realising that their could be a school of them underneath waiting to scoff down some livies.

Do live frogs hook bass?

Yes Garth they do.

Though it is HIGHLY illegal and cruel to use frogs as bait. I have seen bas smash frogs and cicadas off the water though that was the frogs choice to be swimmingwhere he was.

See I told you so, rope is not required to catch Kungy's, bet you lost the others on heavy rope line ?? Admit it I'll know if you're telling me Porky's I've got a porky dectector :devil-smiley:

Answered that Q & you must have Patience Wittle Grasshopper & learn the Mr Miaggi Technique :rolling laughter:

Overheads inside are silly - get a beater.

Funny you should say that cause Micheal Jackson sang a song called Beat It where you singing that tune when Kung Foo'e Ying ?????

Esky is red - not with bitter.

Personally I much prefer the Green GI than the rasberry cordial in the resky. :devil-smiley:

Mahi with silly head - watch out tandoor is coming for you soon.

Aha Wittle Grasshopper you need to learn the Matador Technique to catch one of those big Bull Mahi.

garth is a kinda nick name for me and not my real name. still a cool name though.

You Bloody Bum Sh*t Bugger all this time I thought garth was short for Garthfield the Cat & I thought we had a celebrity on this site, & you're not even a garth let alone Garthfield the Kat.

Do live frogs hook bass?

Saw Kermit the Frog with a fishing pole once in one of the muppet shows.

Dont know if he was fishing for Bass though .

Onya garth see persistance eventually pays off, I've allways said put the effort in & eventually you'll get rewarded.

hahaha wacko jacko calls are gold.

i'll admit the truth about the line....

my big birtha which was easily approx 80-85 cm (maybe water magnified it - i dunno) or so was lost due to my mate being in a very very crazy state of mind...hahaha... his light line had a birds nest (baitcaster) and a king jumped on when he was trying to untangle it hahahahahahhahahaha - so funny. 2 seconds later and his heavy bait runner set up (30 lb) goes off and as soon as he engages strike - ping hahahhahahahaha. while his pings were comming thick and fast i was hooked up. after his bust offs he was possessed like some sort of mad man and all he wanted to do was re-rig his lines and get them down into the school again instead of help me land my first kingfish.. hahaha so funny.

anyway he pissed the landing net off and grabbed the line (10 kg mono with 80lb trace) dunno if he grabbed leader or not) and as soon as he grabbed line the thing went nuts and ping at swivel at the 10 kg intersection and smashed his hand hahaha... it was boatside tho so i'm claiming it and the loss was due to his crap deakie skills ahhahahaha

towards the end of that fight my GT weapon - 10kg rod (50lb braid with 80 lb leader went off with the smaller specimen which i boated (67 cm) it gave a mad fight but nothing like the first one. the first one was phsycho. rod tip in the water, two hand rod holding, drag gonna nuts, so many runs. i thought i was gonna loose it for sure. needed a gimbal.

the thing i found strange being a virgin kingy catcher was that the fish would strike and put a bend in the rod like a fat bream (ie no monster hit) and then kind gradually up the temp until 15 secs time (i guess when they realise they have a 6.0 in their lip) and then go ballistic.

i cannot contemplate landing a hoodlum unless you hooked it mid water in real deep water.

the carnage and chaos was so full and this all went down in a moderate swell (although a good period - 10 secs) and i have a fractured ankle so have this totally restrictive moon boot thing on.

i guess the lesson to learn is knots. my mate reckons his knot was fine. my knot knowledge is hopeless. i just tie a bloodknot or similar variation. it works fine with mono but i bet there is proven knot for braid.

anyone know the name of a proven braid knot for connecting line to swivel?

sorry for the length.

Cheers,

garth

Garth use a double in the braid, say a bimini or a plait, and then tie to swivel using a uni knot......

Works well for me....

and btw if the line pinged at the swivel then your mate either wasnt holding the line at all, or he was holding above the swivel..... you can pull most harbour kings straight out with 80lb leader and if he grabbed it, it couldnt put stress on the swivel anyway....

thanks mate. i'll suss it out and see if i can work it out.

yeah he must of kooked it and grabbed the main line. haha

cheers,

Yep Yep

Braid loses 50% of it's strength @ the knot so it's velly wise to double up when tieing onto swivels etc, even if tying the braid onto a mono leader.

A simple spider hitch is better than no double @ all.

garth
