Morning all, thought I'd share my pain. For some unknown reason I decided to give the trusty tinny a kick in the guts. The poor old girl was loooking a bit tired. Any way I'm not going to waffle on too much, basically I am repainting the hull and giving her a general tidy up and thought I would make the effort to post it for all to read. If anyone wants to ask questions I will answer them if I can.

Step one:
Wash down the hull and remove pretend sponsor stickers - 50 mins.

Step 2:
Sand the hull with wet and dry - 5 days!!!!!!!
This is the most important stage, prep is key.

Step -3
Dust down and wash hull - 20 mins.

Step-4
etch prime bare metal.

Step -5
Precoat-under coat on hull-2 coats, light sand in between - 2 days.

OK, that's were Im at today, starting to look ok!

Tonight the fun part starts. Painting the hull with Brightside I pac paint, battle ship grey. Will post more pics as I get them.

PEZ.

Thought I'd post this anyway for those thinking of doing the same to late to be of any use to you pezarama as you've allready done most of the work .

ps] hows your arms after all the rubbing back ??? :1yikes:

Sand the hull with wet and dry - 5 days!!!!!!!
This is the most important stage, prep is key.

Mate you could,ve saved yourself a sh*tload of time , materials etc had you sent the boat to get bead blasted prob would've cost you around $200

Dust down and wash hull - 20 mins.

Step-4
etch prime bare metal.

Do yourself a favour spend $10 & get a bottle of Aluclean, Whitworths stock it & it's a light acid just dilute it follow instruction on bottle is design to clean any oxidants etc from the alloy prior to etching.

Precoat-under coat on hull-2 coats, light sand in between - 2 days.

Again you could get a paint system which will save you rubbing back in between coats, think it cost me around $250 to paint my 4.8 meter tinny & I did inside & out.

Etch , Sealer & Colour all in the same Arvo & it was a 2 pack

Very tight budget DC $460 V $90.

Cost me $20 for the sandpaper and just my time. Put the radio on and get into it, no rush.

Paint cost me about $70, undercoat and final paint, two coats of each.
l suppose it just depends how much of a hurry your in. I'm looking forward to seeing the final result in a couple of days.

Shoulders pretty sore though.

Hey Steff, thanks mate bit of a slog but should look great!

I'll take you up on the stickers, put them at FOW manly V m8 and I'll pick em up. Text me when they're in.

Spray covers went up a couple of years ago LOL been a while hu?
makes a big difference, also stops my young bloke from going over the side, puting some more around the sides down to the back as well, should be a sweet ride when she's done. Great boat for inner harbour and Pitty.

Been get'n heaps too!!!! :ohhh yeah:

Thats fair enough mate !

I just look @ it in a different way which is the time you spend rubbing down etc you could've spent a faction of that time working & the extra income arrived from work would've more than paid for the extra materials required.

I'm just not a big lover of sitting there rubbing down boats + with bead blasting you get the benefit of removing any corrosion in those hard to get @ places that sanding by hand cant get to.

Once bead blasted the surface is ready to paint no other prep is required except to wash it down to get rid of any dust

Ok guys, got the first coat of the good stuff on yesterday.

For an amatuer boat painter I've gotta say I'm pretty happy with the result. One more coat to go tonight, then the new rego numbers handles and a few other fittings. I'm dying to pull the masking tape off!!!

A few more pics for veiwing pleasure.

TIP: This paint is very thick, don't be tempted to put too much on,
it runs!!!

Here's a photoshopped version of what I'm hoping she'll look like at the end. Extra splash rails at back will be added last.

I put this together before I started, gives you clear direction on what your trying to achieve.

PEZ. If that's just a photoshop impression of what you hope the boat will look like.
I am going to be very suspitious of any photos you show of your fish.
That is a remarkable job of photoshop, I think the way you have the shaddow of the top gunwail and spray sheets at the top of the paint job is exceptional.
Truely a work of art.

BTW the boat will look great.

Had to think about that one

Noticed he had a Tohatsu on the back & was just about to say you need glass's :rolling laughter: :rolling laughter:

The Merc ??

We'll I've owned it over 15 years & let the rego run out a couple of years back cause I wanted to rebuild her.

Thought bugger that after rebuilding mybig boat & thought the $$$'s would be better spent on A pair of 4 bangers & thats what I did.

Just been to lazy to advertise the Merc to get rid of it it's a 450 SL if anyone's interested have both the hardtop & soft top cars complete

Thats looking great Pez, did you really use a brush??? If so its some pretty tidy work mate-are you going to give it a light sand back once second final coat goes on to smooth it out or just leave it with some extra grip!

Pez. You probably already know this but when applying the numbers, use masking tape as a straight edge and as a spacer between the numbers.
This keeps it all nice and straight and evenly spaced.

Thanks Frank will do. I've actually got 28 to stick on because I'm having white with black shadows underneath for that Navy boat look!!! :banghead:

Should provide hours of fun.
