Hi guys,
Just a question on leaving my tinny in the water for a week.
Not flushing the engine for a week is bad when it sits in salt water, what is the best way to minimize the damage?
Lift up the engine, flush it and lowering it again leaving the water intakes covered?
Don't want to leave it up and expose the ram rod for the tilt to the elements.

I could be wrong but i think its ok to leave it for a week. Most of the damage is when salt water drys out in your galleries and pump area. Guys correct me if im wrong.

yep! i agree.
Not a problem at all, I would not even worry in the slightest. Our work outboards (2x6.4m tenders with twin 90 yamahas) only get flushed once every 3 weeks and they always run in salt water and left, the water pump impellers only get changed annually so dont stress its sweet.
I would leave it with the engine up as you dont want growth starting in the leg and cooling system, and dont worry about the tilt ram its marinised. A week in the water should not worry it, just give it a good fresh water wash down when you get it home.
While on holidays my boats have sat in the water for upto 6 weeks with out flushing but leg is always up.
With all this rain about make sure you have a cover and in the least a auto bilge pump, you dont want water filling your boat and getting into the electrics.

thanks for the reply, pretty usefull and reassuring.
I have a full cover for the boat that only lets a tiny bit of water in at the engine part. have to check the waterflow when it sits in water but on the trailer the water from the cover runs around the opening at the back

no problems too easy mate.
Once you get it home go over the boat with a soft broom and soapy water and give the engine a good fluch out.

I dont bother flushing my motors unless I know I wont be using them for a long period of time.
Aweek is not a long period of time
