Lads, launched the QE2 this morning at Davis Marina at 7:00. Had no trouble burleying up yakkas - there were millions of them around there. Caught 4 and motored out to the deeper water, at the end of the moorings, hoping to get a king. 3 or 4 hrs later and not a touch on the livie, nor indeed a whole squid (although it eventually got chewed). Anyway, had lots of fun on the bream rod - caught around 8 bream ranging from 26 - 32cm. (All returned except the biggest). Then came the slimies - hooked 4 of those. They pull hard for their size. All caught on sardine pieces. Have a look a the photos - hooked one on the arse! Anyway, I kept a couple for bait. But now thinking I might have them for dinner instead. Has anyone ever eaten them (and recommend a recipe?).
Enjoy the pics.

Good stuff mate. Ive never eaten slimies. I prefer to salt them down and use them for bait.
I do know a guy who keeps soy sauce on the boat and when he gets one he sashimys it on the spot. Dont know if your into that thing though....

Sean they eat pretty well mate if you r a fan of nth european style fish. Quite oily and fishy tasting but very tasty all the same. Coming from that background i love them fried, crumbed and cooked like sardines in a bit of oil and your fav herbs. They r also awesome smoked...
fillet and bone them well tho

Daniel, she's a Quintrex Bathrunner 6.8, new '08 model, fitted with Honda 200 Seahorse Power 4 stroke. I've posted photos of her before. She's fairly easy on the juice.

Stef - you're spot on with the slimies: bit oily and fishy. I remember as a kid, eating very tasty mackerel caught at Clogherhead in Ireland. Not sure if these are of the same family.

nice catch and top pics.
Slimeys are best eaten smoked or another great way is cooking them over the coals, stuffed with orange or lemon slices and parsley and a bit of fresh chilli.

cheers pk.

Don't eat seafood myself but mackerel iin Holland(where I am from) mainly gets smoked and is considered a good eating fish.
