Ok so everytime I'd go to Clifton Gardens, we'd bring in a ****load of mackerel. We'd only keep what we needed ofcourse.

Until now, I thought they were Spotted Mackerels... Turns out they look more like Slimys.

The thing is, I brought them home thinking they were good tucker.. turns out my mum tried to fry them and wasn't too impressed..

Well I guess my question is... are Slimys good to eat? If so, how should it be prepared?

And as for using it as bait.. is it only good as live bait? Would it be good to be used as fillets?

Thanks alot.

dunno about the eating part but as fillets they are great bait
i find they work good in small amounts like 1cm x 1cm cubes
or little tapered stipes

Very oily frying them I've been told they taste like cr*p

If you like raw fush ??

Shashimi style then you'd prob like them served raw.

Other than that they're an ideal salted bait

fresh dead baits they are awsome

if you can keep them in really good nic and wash em down with salt water before you leave the ramp and pack em in bags and freeze as soon as u get home, next time you go out they will still be pretty good.....if they go all soft in the belly and start to smell they are good for burly..........

nothing like a fresh slimie out the back..........

Well don't think I'll be feeling Japanese anytime soon heh..

And as for my fishing, it's all land based, if someone could please explain what salted down means? ( I know, it's prob the most obvious thing =/)
