Just thought I'd let you know that after only two days of use with the new sol the roller bearing died in the back end. Not a big problem but it's only a few days old and good old Daiwa have made the reel in such a way that you cant just get the part you need to send the reel off to them to replace the bearing. Some special tool seems to be required. I have heard of one other with the same problem. Hope it's not a continuing prob.
I have a Caldia Kix which apears to be very similar if not possibly the same.
I have fully disassembled this reel to get some grit out of the gear case...... so if you can give me some more info on which bearing it is I may be able to guide you through the replacement. It is a little tricky the first time you do it but not that difficult.

I have the sol 2000 and the roller bearing went after only 3 trips, it also needs a special tool to change. They are supposed to be super tough!!!!
It too has to go back to Daiwa

So I called Daiwa about the roller bearing and as you know it needs to be sent back to them. As I only live some 15 or so minutes away from their head office at Frenches Forest I just drove the reel to them and said fix it. They were actually really cool about it and fixed it on the spot.
Just replaced the roller bearing.
The special tool is actually a small pair of pointers that are used to remove the small clip that holds the bearing in. The technician from Diawa said that the clip is not needed and advised me to leave it out in case I need to replace the bearing again down the line. It is only used to hold the bearing in place while you refit the roller but if your carfull you can do it just fine. Shimano dont have the clip and I have replaced the roller in my Sustain and stradic a few times with no problems. (I hope NOT in the next few trips) They covered it under warranty of course and took a few minutes to do.
Thanks for the info on the Kix your right it is almost the same as the SOL
but I think I have it covered.
The roller bearing is really quick and easy to change if you have the tools to get the sir-clip out.
I've had them done in the shop when the rep has come in.
I've had the roller bearings in all of my Certates and Luvias's replaced about every 6 months, it's a quick process and covered by warranty.

LANOX after every outting would stop alot of that. Had my caricorn for 5 years... still like new. Stradic is 8 months old and going strong. My reels all get there fair share of spray sitting on the gunnel rod holders.
Like inox but with sheep lanolin added
