Yeah Ive poked around that area abit, though mainly in the rural areas and the fishing is crap due to the local people being VERY good at fishing the rivers clean with gill nets:noway: .
Youll probably be on the costal side??? If so when/if your in Hanoi head to somewhere like Haiphong find a small village on the outskirts and pay some locals to take you out. There should be some dudes around with rods. Remeber your money goes a LOOOONG way and the locals in small villages will do anything to get some.
They get baracooda I know that for sure and they probably get a few similar reef species to us like sweet lip and leatheries ect.
Hope this helps.

you say your not a fish ... so your saying stef is a fish :rolling laughter: :rolling laughter:
I was in the central part on the coast last year, Denang and Hoi An.
The river was heavily fished, and the markets showed locally caught fish, mainly small, some snapper or perch looking things, plus the odd barracuda and small spanish mackeral.
I got offered a trip over there and had no expectations. Loved the place and the people, food was awesome.
I'd give fishing a bit of a miss to be honest and enjoy everything else what Vietnam has to offer.
Cheers Dave
