Uh...NO! There's no way those fish are 30cm. :stone: Rules are rules, if they're under 30cm they go back.

I may be a bit of a stickler but the both of you (moses and fishboy) need to shape up. RULES ARE RULES! If you do go using choppers as live bait I pray fisheries get you and fine you.

Keeping undersize fish is wrong. There is NO justification.

Theres usually plenty of other suitable live baits around if the taylor are about....Wondabine-been past it and looked at the water many times from the train, always thought thered be some good flatties around!

LOL catch n release, Theres more chopper talior, then there is yakkas imo. Talior will never go exitinct, i use live talior all the time in the hawkesbury for jews. i've had a live talior set from sunset to sunrise and found 70cm+ flattie on the end. Use them when theres nothing else around!

I know its illegal but I agree with you on this one. I don't see a problem with throwing out the odd chopper as a livie. I know full well there is no shartage of adult tailor in any estuary or ocean system near where I fish.
Having said that, it really does give me the sh*ts when they are caught and killed in a bucket for no reason. I guess the reason is that people want to prove to someone that they can catch a fish, with no consideration to the actual fish. My bet is that they end up in the bin.

I know this is probably a double standard but it is the thoughtlessness that p*sses me off.

I am with Catch and release on this one. The rules are there to protect fish stocks and if it was up to individuals to assess fish stocks and decide which fish size limits they can flout then it would be a bad thing.
Poddy mullet can now be used for live bait whereas this practice was illegal for many years, but until there is a change it is illegal to use sub 30cm tailor for live bait. As for the number of tailor about ,, they have not returned to the number or size they used to be in at Fraser Island in the past. Similarly I remember how reliably one could catch 1kg choppers off the rocks at Whale Beach in the 70s - not so anymore. could be "I remember in the old days syndrome" but I think not.

comments not directed at you but expressing an opinion that using sub 30cm tailor as live bait is still illegal (fact) and not in the best interest of recreational fishermen (personal opinion).

Guys I totally see your points & to an extent agree, but please refraine from condoning any illegal fishing practices here, as it is in SFF's rules that it's not welcome.
Thanks.

Still good liveys and if wanna risk it well do so cause there is always good results at the other end with that tailor getting nailed..To be honest iv seen the fisheries once and they were to lazy to walk down the rock face to c if we had licences or a general check up and there were alot of people keeping undersize king that same day but they were just to lazy to come down..We were looking up to the fence from down on the ledge...:icon_smile_wink: U never really c them at all.....I been fishing rock ledged with koreans slaughtering undersize kings and and not just one species, about 4 to 5 diff types..U cant say anything to the cause they would pull a knife out and i have tryed befor to tell them to release undersize kings.........Tailor great baits for big kings...

I agree.
I know a few places near city which has breams around 40-45 cm. but you cant catch them. You know why. Choppers. You cant make your bait go to the bottom through those choppers. The moment it hit the water zillions of them destroy the bait. So i dont think we'll get any shortage of tailer.
I dont see anything wrong with using them as baits.

But again rools are rools.
