Hey All,
I've been experimenting with paternoster rigs off the beach of late to use two droppers with different baits (or a bait on one and a surf popper on another).
I have been using the dropper loop knots, but recently read that these can compromise the line strength, and that using locked blood (or uni) knots in conjunction with brass rings was the go for added strength.

Anyone have experience with making up paternoster rigs and can make any recommendations?
Cheers,
Neil

brass rings are a great improvise & they give you the option of using lighter or heavier leaders if needed.
only thing i could add is a small BB swivel above the top ring if you are getting any line twist drama's.

Greg what if you hook up on the lower hook, isn't it just gonna pull tighter on the upper knot???? I reckon just put extra lines out!:rolling laughter:

Buggered if I know the name of the knot that I use

Just know how to tie them & if I had a bit of heavy mono here I'd tie wun to show you.

Dont like rings or those silly 3 way swivels @ all as all they manage to do it create line twist.

I get no such thing with using knots & only use a swivel to tie to mainline.

If I rememeber I'll tie a rig up & take a pick

Don't use it much but i find a 'longliners' knot good.

Thanks fellas, I was worried about the brass ring approach, but I think it could have its application, especially as you describe beats - it would certainly be useful to be able to change leader strength independantly of the whole rig, particularly in the event of noahs turning up and switching to wire. KF - the longliners knot looks excellent - a 30lb 'main' with 10lb droppers would be the go for my particular application (usually).
Would be very interested to see what you come up with DC - I have to say I'm with you on the lack of bits of metal on the line - I tend to only use a swivel to connect the main line to the end rig, and then only if line twist is likely to be a problem.
Storms, I hear what you're saying, but in some of the skinny gutters and rips I'm gonna cause myself more issues with two lines out - to cover ground I'll use light weights and walk the entire length of the gutter with the flow to locate the fish - to use more than one line would mean anchoring the bait which I often find ineffective.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
Cheers, neilm

I only use the padonosta bottom bouncing the reefs.I only use a swivel with dropper loops for my hooks looped throughthe ends.

I got sick of rerigging all the time on open water with extra swivels.

With the dropper loops i can change hook sizes quickly, run a plastic, ect.
I also make a few of the the night before in case the leatheries come to visit.:stone:

I wemembered :devil-smiley:

OK I used a bit of 100 lb mono so it would stand out better in the pics

Velly simple knot that someone may put a name to it , only takes about 5 secs to tie.

Now key point & last pic is best to show it.

When knot is completed trim off the end which faces your sinker
You want the drpper to face your rod, this is what stops the line twisting as well as presenting your bait alot nicer, your rellying on the lines memory & weight of bait to hold the bait out away from the mainline.

I dont use the paternoster rig all that often only when I'm fushing in deep water.

Out there you also cop those monster mongrel leather jackets so if I want to rig for them all I do is use wire again the dropper faces up the line when I crimp them on
