Fished for a few hours at my old stomping grounds from a rock point that pushes about 100 m into the ocean. Over about4 hours we pulled in a number of just undersized bream and snapper, 2 shovel nose sharks, 1 banjo shark, 1 port jackson-like shark and 1 30 cm bream. Lost a heap of massive hits and enjoyed watching the surface smashers about 100m from us. Overall, not as good as previous times...but a whole heap of new species to add to the list. ALL RELEASED and NOT 1 DIRTY ROCK COD.
yep byron bay has plenty of those shovel nosed sharks did u fish cosies corner at all its a graet spot for tailor at this time of year

My guess is cosies corner is on Tallows Beach and if it is the same spot i am thinking of......it rocks: two channels bashing into each other beside the rocks. From that spot I have previously caught multiple stargazers, many drummers and a trawler load of dart and sweep.
I still do not call Sydney home and would give my left tes... to get back to the hinterland.
My ffriend who does not fish much was shocked by the variety of species caught, the banjo and the port jackson-like shark being new to me.
Had to go up for a Lismore reunion, other than the fish the only real shock was finding out an ex was now a carpet licker:confused: .

I avoided North Wall because it looked like soup and decided not to surf this time around.........sharks, brown water and surfing do not go together well, eg. the kid on the shark biscuit.
I did go for a fish of a jetty that I used to haunt and remember seeing a fella using live tailor for jew bait. Well, we stood there for only about 15 minutes and the guy brought in an easy 100cm+ jew, which he promptly planted on the jetty and recast. Unfortunately the jew decided to flip flop back into the water......BUT the amazing thing is he pulled in another within 5 minutes (or the same one). The most disappointing thing is that between the time I left Ballina years ago till now some turd burger decided to pull it down. It was made of concrete so I can not see any OH&S issues, I believe it was to remove fisherman from the view of Lords within the Ramada complex. It really pi$$ed me off, I had caught many species including a groper from that jetty, plus I used to enjoy watching the jew turbo in and out attacking squid.
Life is bliss up there and now there are a few more jobs other than picking nectarines and shooting flying foxes, I may consider going home.
