I was reading my GPS book (Furuno GP-31) and it says the battery should be replaced every 3 to 5 years or it will lose its brain.
It also says that that the battery should be replaced by a Furuno Dealer, what a pain, has anyone done it themselves or is it something that only a dealer can do?
A quick call to Furuno will sort it out but I'm curious about other people's experiences.

Ah yes !

I'll let you in on a wittle secret Fed

Dont believe everything you read in house battery on my 1st GPS which was a Koden lasted well over 12 years.

You should really get out & use yours toys instead of reading about them it's called getting some expirience under your belt :devil-smiley: :devil-smiley:

Did you change the battery after 12 years or did you just upgrade to a newer GPS?

FED, do it yourself. You can get 10 batteries from Jaycar for about $5. (they don't sell them singularly) And they aren't too hard to do. If you have all your marks backed up on a card at home, then I wouldn't be too fussed about changing it untill it ****s itself.

Shouldn't be too hard to do FED, would be similar to changing back-up battery's in many electronic devices.....They may be soldered into place and to each other, if they are just be sure to buy the ones that have the tabs on them----If you want a hand just gimme a yell-I enjoy doing that kinda stuff and yeah I'v done it before-my rechargable drill has never lasted longer since replacing the ni-cad cells with Nimh, also replaced the back-ups in my VRC and cam corder!

I was a bit concerned it might be filled with gas or pressurised in some way, I'd hate to hear a hissing noise while I was taking it apart.
It seemed strange that it was recommended to return to the dealer for battery replacement.
I think I'll wait until it dies, it might even outlast me.
