Also a secret of mine is to soak the watermelon and smoke hawgs in some purple yum the night before, just enough to cover about 5mm in the bottom of the packet. They turn a nice purple colour and are better than the junbug colour and smell heaps better :smiile:

Must admit, plastics don't 'turn me on' at the moment, been having too much fun with HB's. :) But having said that, I still use plackys a lot around boats and structure, usually with a mix of Ecogear Bug Ants, Pad Tues, Gulp worms or minnow grubs, depending on whether I'm fishing Marinas, boats, natural stuff, or whether I'm in clear water or dirty.

Hawgs bass minnows, grubs, gulps, sandworms who cares as long as it has berkley on the packet.
All will out do the others on any given day. :gutsy:

Fish eat em.

Hardbodies, you cant go past the Lake police range, they have it all covered. Chubby's deep and shallow, fry's floaters and suspenders and the smaller squirrels. You can always go back to a SX when you have lost all your chubby's:tongue:

I also swear by the Berkley range.

3" power minnows are my fave.
Brown Pseed, Green Wmelon, Blue pearl, Smelt all work well.
2" grubs in clear patterns are ok too.

I recently went to a large Tackle store in Taren Point. Wanted to buy some Hawg's. After some searching i finally asked. I was told that Berkely have discontinued them and that they were no longer available.
Is this true? Anyone else heard this?

I believe their are some "shimano" branded Hawg's on the market. Anyone tried these?

Yep they pulled them of the market earlier this year.
The reason being that worldwide they were not selling well enoiugh, combined with the banning of non biodegradable plastics in some countries.
A couple of shops still have a few left although the colour range is starting to dwindle.
shimano has imported some look alikes with lots of japanese writnig in then. They do look fairly similar.

Yes Ed thats the case, there are a few still around though.
Haven't used the Shimano ones but mates say they go alright.

The Shimano plastics are called Koebi Chans, which means something like shrimp according to a japanese mate. They're obviously japanese ,you cant even read the packaging??! They look pretty schmick though, saw some samples that shimano have just got hold of..... quite a few colours. a green pumpkinseed type, clear green/blue fleck, red and a few others. they look heaps more australian than the hawgs, with a thin 1.5 - 2 inch body and thin wings as well as feelers. closer to the bulkies than the one inch hawgs.
they'll be on the market in about a month i think

Hmmm should be good as I have spoken to some people who hate the look of them but its the fish that have to like it not the angler.

Should be good to see them.

Drenno,

Personally I use lighter coulours like watermelon in clear water and dark colours such as pumpkinseed in dirtier water. Its all about the profile that the fish see's not always the colour. Look at the atomic chicken colour in the gulp prawns:eeek: and it is fast becoming a go to lure of choice for some anglers.
