This was my mini holiday after returning from Iraq. Took the Mrs and kids down for some fishing and golf. Friday sunrise didn't have any bait so did some spinning off Short Pt beach using Halco slices. Was able to get a couple of choppers but nothing to brag about.
Sat morning went over to Main beach to stay out of the northerly and it turned out to be a short and hot session, caught salmon up to about 1.5kg but once the full sun hit the water and combined with practically no swell, the fish disappeared. Figured out early I'd brought the wrong gear, 15lb on the surf rod was far too heavy. There was a school of small fish out there and they caned me. I'd cast out, the line would go bang bang bang and then there'd be no bait. Would have been better off with one of my bream outfits. That was all the fishing I did, played golf the Sunday and a cold SW change blew in later that day.
Anyway I really enjoyed the stay, hadn't been to Merimbula in 25 years and I liked that no matter what direction the wind blew from you could find a place to fish.
