Les (Happy Dude) and Tony arrived at our van on the Clash site Sat morning. We had a cuppa and a bit blether together then set off for a launch at East tarbet. We launched about an hour behind Ians boats but were in no rush.
First port of call was to collect some mackerel so we stopped off just out from the wall."Fancy doing the unhooking Snatcher" said Les? Well I was the guest so duly obliged and my word how I got covered in Mackerel squirt!!!!!!!!!!
We fancied a bit pollacking so rounded the Mull and shortly Ians 3 boats came into sight,we pulled up alongside them and started pollacking. I elected to spin with a Snatcher Sandeel and was first in with a pollack around three pound. Les and Tony elected in to floatfish with mackerel strip and sandeel which Ian had kindly chucked our way.The pollack came along in patches, the biggest being about six pounds. At about one Ians three boats set off around the tip into Luce bay in search of tope and we were not far behind them.
Down went the anchor but only briefly as we had forgot to attach the rubby dubby bag!! LOL Well we were all optomistic but to no avail, the tope never showed up. Ian done a shoot, not sure where to though but Matties and Andys boats stayed with us. I think someone said Spike was over Port William way.We did pick up a few doggies but Les came up trumps with a fine 15lb 4oz bull huss.
We fancied the last hour back on the pollack again so headed back through the rip to fish under the lighthouse. We were soon into pollack again and Les put worm on and picked up a few wrasse, the biggest about 3.5 lbs. I also picked up a 2lb coalfish. We packed in at about six and headed back to East Tarbet.
Les and Tony set off for Ians for a barbie and a sleepover there. I headed back to our van on the Clash site for a few medicinal reds on the veranda with the wife and then a meal in the Clash.
The day was most enjoyable with all the fish being returned (apart from the mackerel and a herring) and the craic was really good. Les and Tony had me rolling in the isle with some of there Kenyan adventures and I reciprocated with some amazing “talking belching” which did make them giggle. Thanks for taking me out Les and also for the beer on the boat,my turn next time, see you down here in "Gods Counry" again shortly no doubt
John,
Ps This is a “hotwire” report and is being sent to you from my laptop, sat in my car, somewhere on the Mull of Galloway. This is a copy and paste job from notepad as I tried to type it yesterday whilst sat in my car but gave up eventually due to all the errors I was making sat with my laptop on my knee.
I would also normally intersperse the photos at relevant places in the report but due to the above reason will tag them all on at the end.
