i have a 115hp optimax on my triton and i havent had a thing go wrong with it. it goes like the clappers and is great on fuel compared to other 2 strokes......

deffinatly would suggest you get it. you wont be sorry............

other option would be a mariner Opti max...... basically the same motor (same factory) but i think they are a little cheaper and a different colour casing.

i would stay away from e-tec's (evinrude) as i havent heard a good thing been said about them from any one that owns one.

E-tec's have had some drama's but are getting better & probably will continue to do so,
As for the Opti's they are awsome...

yeah i looked hard at an etec but decided i didnt wanna be one of the unfortunate ones who didnt get a good one i trust the opti more at this stage my opinion might change in a couple of years but for now they are still a young development.

I got a normal Merc, compared to other engines it only uses more oil, must be an American thing!

Ive got a 115 optimax and its great! I would fully recommend one. It uses less juice thanmy yamaha 80efi 4stroke on a bigger boat. Its smokeless and quiet. The only drawback is the costs of that oil you have to use. But then again it uses bugger all of it.
My mate in qld has the 90 opti and we put $150 in petrol for 3 litres of oil last week on the reef.

The mariners are the same thing, same price, different cowling.

I've got a Etec 50 and have the only drama I have ever had is the warning siren going off when weed gets wrapped aorund. first time it happended I almost had a heart attack.
Uses next to no oil, or fuel, quiet as a mouse. Goes brilliantly.

I own a 850hr+ merc 115 2s which ive had since 20hrs. Only probs have been one reed, hydralic trim motor and trim sensor. touch wood ive never need a tow because of the motor (only when the steering cable wheel broke)

I have heard a few bad things about otpimax`s, and thats there very tempramental. In that if your alarms go off for whatevery reason and you fix the problem while on the water the engine will only continue in limp mode until its reprogrammed. A very frustrating and expensive game. Limping home on a perfect engine can be both dangerous and time consuming. I did consider one but not after hearing about those faults.

think Jap YAMMIE-HONDA (when do you hear of anything bad about them?), they build/engineer alot better that yanks who`s products are often rougher tougher looking. Old ficht now etec problem optis problem etc etc.

Do usa made jeeps last? I think not + they cost you a fortune to repair. I know of 3 mates with jeeps and ALL have replaced radiators saggy shocks etc....Put you dum in a 2005/6 top of the line jeep v8 and its very lose feeling

If you want reliablity stick with JAP made stuff!

Nothing wrong with e-tec damn fine motor, the alarm probably sounded due to the engine temp rising because of lack of water pumping because of the weed.
