Yep it was a blinder of a day. We pulled up at the spot and began by jigging for slimies, soon as we had a few I ganged one live with a #7ball and dropped it down in the middle of this massive bait ball that we had pulled a few cobia from last week. At the same time we continued to catch livies. I looked over and thought that the drop had gone on a bit long so I checked the rod and then it took off for the first 17kg jew. 2 drifts later and after pulling the bait up to drop at the back of the school the stella 10000 screamed again resulting in the 15kg jewie. We probably had 10 more drifts with the weather picking up and were about to call it quits when Cheyne's rod started screaming, The big runs and heavy shakes had him calling it for a big cobia until we saw the meter and a half of silver at the surface. This was a PB for Cheyne and it took a long time to wipe the smile from his face, check the pics to see just how stoked he was. The next drift my rod screamed again and I thought thast I was on to the mother of jews. This fish pulled harder and longer than any of the previous fish and as we had only caught jews we thought it must be a huge jewie. But no as it came to the surface we saw the dark brown of the cobia. The cobia put up a hell of a fight. I want a bigger one now. Cheyne got one of 28kg last year at the same time in this very spot.
All in all a fantastic day out. big fish make man very happy
