As you may know, I get pretty passionate about my fishing. I get even more passionate when I learn that our fishing is being threatened by the government deals that have been done with Environmental Nazis such as the Greens. I get involved as much as I can, and try and get others involved.

What I have found is that the everyday fisho won't mind sticking his head up and having a say about the situation, or at least having a listen to see what is going on. While on the other hand, fishos involved in competition arrangements seem to be more apathetic than most in my experience.

If you boil it down, and condense it, it is the competition guys that would have a lot more to lose than the average fisho. Less fishing areas, less access to those areas, and more restrictions on us, the PAYING public. We pay for our right to fish, and then have it taken away.

Some may think I am being confrontational. Perhaps I am. But I get sick of hearing everyone say that it's not on, but not many actually doing something about it.

If you do get involved, you would be helping all fisho's as well as yourself.

RIGHT HERE....RIGHT NOW.... I am laying down a challange for everyone here to do a little bit of something. ANYTHING! Even if it is just making sure that you sign one of the numerous petitions that are all over Sydney in tackle stores. Or just airing the situation with non-fishos that you know. You would be suprised how many non-fishos are sympathetic to our cause when it is explained to them. Nearly everyone will be able to draw similarities from other aspects of their dealings with the government, and will understand our plight.

I may be out of line, but I think this challenge should be extended to the organisers as well as the individual fishers. What about you guys, as the organisers, actually get some of the competitors together and release a press statement saying you don't agree with the shafting we are recieving. Or even get a banner made to be displayed at your weigh-ins to let all know what is going on.

The organisers are in a great position to be able to pass the message along to the watching public. And you may even have contacts with regular media outlets that can be used to your/our advantage.

I understand that some may not want to get involved as it is seen as a political issue. That's not to say that it has be politicised. It can be done with no political affiliation whatsoever. Look at ECOFishers. They are not politically aligned.

Bottom line is, we need to do something as a group or we will be history. As much as I hate using a union line, it is very appropriate.

TOGETHER WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!

If I have upset...I'm sorry. But if I have upset you enough to do something...then I'm glad!

I would have thought that Shimano and the other tackle suppliers would like to give some assistance (but of course this country is a small market).
Perhaps we should be lobbying people like Platypus fishing line who are proudly Australian? Do we have some other suggestions of proudly Australian tackle suppliers who we can enlist on our cause?
I read an article in a British newpaper about fishing the other day - the League Against Cruel Sports (who successfully lobbied the Labour government in the UK to ban fox hunting) apparently will not even try to oppose fishing (even though they are anti fishing) because of the sheer number of fishers in the UK. If we can get the message across to the state government that we feel as strongly about this as we do, then maybe, just maybe, we'll get some positive action.
We pay for the right to fish, not for more scientifically dodgy sanctuary zones.
Cheers,
Neil

Alvey and Wilson are two I can think of.
Also perhaps if AFTA (Australian Fishing Tackle Association) can be approached then you would have all of the tackle companies and tackle shops behind you. I can be contacted if contact details are required.

Have just checked, the majority of the Tackle industry is behind us. Lets face it the tackle industry needs fishing areas open to survive.
As are several other organisations. I see the major problem being lack of unity and cohesion between all of the groups.
The rec body needs 1 body to represent us. Not the hundreds of smaller ones with no real leader. United we can stand but divided we fall.

The Fishing Party

Mate I'm not sure of what else there policies are but I can try to find out. If I get a responce I'll post it.
I've raised this idea of voting for the fishing party with a few people and the responce I always get is "their not a major party and will only give my vote to their preferences".
It is up to us to make them a major party, how do you think "The Greens" became a force or for that matter "One nation", it was'nt because of their leader or publisity, it was because people believed in their policies and voted them into becoming enough of a threat that other parties had to make deals with them because if they did'nt adopt their policies they would be over run by them.

Come on make your vote count
"I fish and I vote" - not a truer word was spoken!

ECO fishers - note that this website is about alerting the Angling community to attempts to lock us out of areas that we pay to fish via our rec licence, and not about fishing reports/
Quote from their website:
"ECO Fishers:
formed in response to the government implementation of marine parks and the unjustified reduction in access for fishers with potential for further erosion of those rights if the process is not halted and then managed at a sensible level."
Website:
http://www.fishnitis.com/fishing-board/index.php?PHPSESSID=ca91d4b0a8fb0f5ec1f4bffa238f27 d7&board=2.0

My personal view is that ECO fishers are not affiliated to a political party and are in favour of sustainability rather than Marine Park lockouts. Read more on the website above. Interesting stuff.

Hi all,

Firstly, there are alot of things going on behind the scenes with representatives of the tackle industry with respect to marine parks.

Secondly, you may want to check out the following link:

and open the top document (who's who in recreational fishing in NSW).
