Hey
ive been looking into purchasing a bow mount for my 12 foot tinny.
I was just wondering how would i go fitting it to the front with the rails?
i understand that i would have to cut the rail to fit it on but how would it go when i fold the shaft up?
If anyone has any photos of a boat were the persons modified it to put one on can you please send me a link or post the picture.
Also can someone tell me asides from the motor what will i need? type of battery? will i need some sort of mounting bracket etc??
cheers

Give AMMI a call Tom she'll tell you :rolling laughter:

The bow section of your tinny will be velly flimsey in turn will jerk the lecky about eventually resulting in damage esp in transit whilst towing.

Best to get a alloy plate welded to the boat to make the lecky secure, haven't got any up close pics @ hand to show you below is the best I can do.

Originally I had a full bowrail on the wittle tinny, ended up having to cut & reshape to accomidate the lecky.

Also visible is the alloy plate I welded to the bow for the lecky to sit on, it got welded to the extruded channels cause they had strength, prob went a bit over kill but I used 13 mm plate.

Just another question....

What size battery do people use for there electric motors?? im looking at a 55lb bow mount... and id use a deep cycle marine battery as those AGM batterys are alot more expensive and ive heard you need a diffrent sort of charger for them aswell?
cheers

Tom I promise you that you wont be getting a true Deep Cycle battery

Peeps seem to throw that term around quite loosely & it's not true

Deep Cycle batteries are those used in electric forklifts etc & cant see you paying around $800 for a battery.

And yep those batteries do use a different sort of charger only cause they are all linked & a plug from the charger goes straight into say the forklift.

Size of battery you're after really depends on how much you'll be using it no good getting something like a 60 amp if you're putting in long days on the water.

Cant recall whats in my wittle boat think it's around a 80, hasn't gone flat on me yet but if it's a long day on the leccy you do notice it towards the end

Gday Fellas
I ordered my bow mount today.
Its a Minn Kota Riptide 55lb hrust 48" shaft.
I got it for $1050, $100 cheaper then the nearest competetor...
I also got the quick release mounting bracket which set me back $145...
The bloke that I spoke to said he will order the motor in tomorrow as he only stores the Minn Kota AP's.
Cheers

Glad you cleared that up.

Thought living out woop woop on a farm you were after an alarm system so nobody would steal your new lecky :rolling laughter:

Alot cheaper if you tie a doz or so empty tin cans to a string then to the lecky that way if someone steals the lecky you can follow the sound of the tin cans rattling away :rolling laughter:
