Finally a few cobe's

Got out to special spot X of the jumpin pin with Cheyne yesterday and had another good session, this time no stinky jewfish :rolling laughter: but a few decent cobia up to 24lb on the boga grips. As per the last couple of trips live slimies on gangs and you are in for a great day drifting over the huge bait schools. The day was magic, whales everywhere and dolphins as well. One humpback with a calf came up within 20m of the boat. We had at least one hit every drift of some thing as well as several trag jew to about 80cm. Several of the trag were belted as they came up buy some huge things some toothy some not. A few sharks a bronze whaler and a black tipped reefie which we were both sure they were big cobia until we saw them on the surface. All in all another good day off the pin.

Nice Cobia Kris, i heard they fight like real heavy paper bags? Like a shark fight not a King? Still yet to catch one so im just going by hearsay. Hope they come downto Sydney this season.

Kamil, they go as hard as any king and you lose half of them in the first few minutes as they rub your line on the bottom, but if you get them up they tend to do a few circles as they near the surface a bit like a fiestey shark, the shape of them is sharklike i guess. Whoever said they we like a heavy paper bag, they can get me some 'cause I like these paper bags they go as hard as any kingfish and they taste great. I dont eat much fish but these are right up there with hapuka for taste.
