My friend who I got out fishing with, owns a Haines Hunter 550slc with a 115 1986 yamaha.
The problem is, when the boat is under load it seems to have a flatspot or feels like it is starving from fuel.
What he has done so far, its had a full service, new ss tank, new fuel pump, new water seperator. He has disconected the oil injection, he has also bypassed the warning sirens and lights by doing a procedure with cutting and rejoining wires on the motor oil tank and also the resivior tank.
He was told what wire needed reworking but he asked me if anyone on our forum knows of this procedure and if they do could you tell us to see if he has done it correctly.
Also the tacho occasionally does not work.
Thanks

Dosen't really say alot esp if you dont run the carbs dry after use, When fuel is left in the carbs eventually it will evaporate leaving 2 stroke gunk behind.

If the flat spot was there the 1st time out after overhaul then I'd be looking for a new mechanic.

Else the comment you made quoted above is a pretty poor one which I see used way to often.

As the owner of these motors it's in your best interest to flush run carbs dry etc etc if you want TO ENJOY TROUBLE FREE BOATING

ps] I'd be having a looky @ the Reed Valves if one is geting stuck it would explain the flat spot

Hello
I told him to give me more detail but he didn't listen to me......
Have you heard of disconnecting the rev limiter via cutting and reattaching wires??

I will get my friend to get his wife to write a detailed report of all the things that he has done to his motor and then I will post it again.
Hopefully it will help explain things a bit better.
thanks

Nope cant really be done unless you're a real goose & go around sniping away in the main loom without having a clue what you are doing.

Conecting the Tacho is a simple task just a matter of pushing male socket into the female socket in other words you cant F*** it up.

Then all you need to do is power up the internal light.

Chances are that you've got a bad contact in the plug for the tacho to work then not work

Thumpin, if your mate has fiddled with the wiring on his engine and bypassed other stuff shouldn't his knowledge of outboards be sufficent to fix his flatspot:tongue:.....

From what your mate has done to his outboard I reckon he needs get it to a mechanic for it to be repaired properly-his dodgy wiring has prolly caused the problem!:nopity::idiot:
