View Full Version : Are Tohatsu Outboards any good?
In the market for a new donk, 25hp 2 stroke for my little 4.3m pride and joy.
Can anyone tell me if Tohatsu outboards are any good?
Thanks PEZ.
I have one. LOVE IT!
For the price I paid, it is awesome value. Anything similar in power and features was going to cost me at least $3K more in the more established brands such as Merc, Yam and Suzi. Granted mine is only a 2 stroke, but their prices compare favourably in the other ranges as well. They make a 4 stroke, and a HPDI (High Pressure Direct Injection) which is the new-fangled technology on 2 strokes.
Some say that the Tohatsu are a noisy motor, but I haven't found it to be any noiser than other 2 strokes.

Hey Pez
My first motor was a 70hp Tohatsu and it lasted 13 months for 1600 hrs on the clock.
Tohatsu rate their motors at the prop where as Yammies etc rate them at the head. In short it generally means that a 25 tohatsu has more grunt than their competitors.
See you out there mate. They're Back!
All the best.

I had my boat built in QLD by a custom boat builder. He sourced the Tohey from Currumbin Marine. It was just on $7K with all the bells and whistles, whereas a comprable Merc or Suzi was going to be closer to $10K!
OH...and I have to add...I chose the Tohatsu over the others as it was a bigger capacity 3 cylinder. What that means, is that it has more torque down low to get my fat arse...and the fat arse of the boat...out of the hole better.
