Well ive gotten into these things finally, they are a pain to put on, they twist and crap, hehe, my question is what size jigheads are good and weight in them, when do i use heavy ones and when to use light ones?

What action do you use? Does it have to hit the bottom, is that the general area i want to fish?
Mostly fishing off land and wharves for now.
Thanks

well im not the best with them but here goes:

the jighead size changes depending on the size of the plastic, current and what depth you want to fish. they dont need to hit the bottom you just need to get them to where the fish are.

off whalfs u get some nice bream casting along infront of the pylons and bring it back past them at different depths till you find the fish, but with flatties bouncing off the bottom is the best way to go.

i use the lightest jig head that will allow you to get your plastic to where you want it, and just upsize it depending on the speed of the current and the depth of the water.

if they are twisting they probably just arent on straight, its well worth the extra time making sure that the plastic sits straight, not bunched up at the end and the hook is going through the centre of the plastic.

as far as action goes i usually just use a simple lift and drop or sort jerks on the retreive.

thats about all the help i can give at the moment but i hope it gets you onto some fish.

Thats pretty much it.
& yep ALWAYS take the time & make sure its perfectly straight, or the time you saved bodging it on, you just lost casting for "no fish".

kamil u gonna go to clifton 2moro?

generally around the harbour 1/8th jighead is a good weight i find. If your targeting bream probably 1/12 upto a 1/22 in the shallow stuff would be the go. I agree with the others, make sure its rigged dead straight!

Yeah Kamil when the water warms up you can join me in some bream flickin at Iron Cove or Hen and Chooken. Got a 40cm fish today but it was a fluke, and I cheated (burleyed up a bit, was going for mullet).

Rob I may hit Clifton tomoz too. If I can make the treck. :bricks: Are there squid in any decent numbers?

The advice given is all you need to know Kamil.
I learnt on my own 2 years ago from trial and error.
Got the nack of it just by trying different things.
Theres no rules when it comes to what action to use.
Once again, just play around and see what works.

Just use the lightest head possible

Current depth of water etc will govern head weight

There's times I dont use a jig head or use a resin head moreso when chasing the Brimus.

To insert hook into plastic, sit plastic alongside the jig head, visualise where you want the hook to pretude & that's where you bring it out from.

I dont fish off wharfs but if I did I'd just put a hook through the plastic with no jig head & just let it waffle out giving it some twitch's along the way.

By doing this you'll keep the plastic in the zone alot longer, that wittle tricky works for me around moorings if there's no or very wittle tide movement

Alex will take you up on that offer in coming weeks.

Eh I'd give it more than weeks, unless you want flatties and 10-20cm bream.

The breaming scene gets into full swing late november/early december. Strangely when my christmas holidays kick in.

And put a stop to me going to Clifton tomoz, public transport to Clifton in the morning is near impossible, unless you like 2km walks.

If it were just a 2km walk, yeah OK. But on top of that I have to take a train to the quay, a bus somewhere, wait for an hour and then take a bus somewhere else and then walk 2km, remembering I'm not very familiar with the back streets. And the earliest I can get there is only around 6:45-7am. :banghead:

And all on foot.

P.S. Kamil, does the GF like the fact you're using rubbers now? :rolling laughter::rolling laughter::rolling laughter:
