Recommendations needed for gear !!!

Hi Guys,
have a question for you. I am looking to buy some new fishing gear soon. I am new to all this, so trying to get some recommendations. I will mostly be rock fishing, so what sort of stuff would you recommend for that. I you have some favourites etc lets hear them.

In terms of price, not the most expensive stuff, but not the cheapest either, lets see what the inbetween stuff comes in at. (maybe around 300 - I don't really know how much this stuff costs)

10-12 ft rod, start off with a 4-6000 threadline(eggbeater) with 10kg line. or an alvey 650a. some small ball sinkers, floats and trace- 15lb-30lb. alex bellisimos dvd on sydney beach and rock fishing is money well spent too.

I have a brochure here for Belissimo charters, was thinking of going on one, apparently they are good for beginners to get shown the ropes.
