View Full Version : 9 Kilo Kingy in Pittwater.. A true story

George, Neil, Chris and myself spent the day with Pete Le Blang today on Pittwater. We were after the Kingies today.
Pete said the squid were scarce and he wasn't kidding, we spent a long time trying to get the live squid and it took a few spots to get us going.
First hit was Chris's fish that pulled like a train then had him wrapped around something. With a little ingenuity and hard work from Chris and Pete, that got this bad boy off the bottom. It was around a 4 kilo fish, but that is a 5kg anchor that he had it wrapped around. Chris landed both, so I've called it for 9kg :rolling laughter::rolling laughter:
I dived across 2 eskies to get to the next run. I ripped the rod out and took Petes rod holder with it. I was a little over enthusiastic but i landed him. So i was happy.
George and Neil were left and after a change in spot, both livies got hit at once. Neil lost his under the boat, but George continued the fight and boated his fish.
George's fish was the biggest measuring 75.5cm. The .5 really counted because it was bigger than Chris's..
Neil, unfortunately missed out today..
Footnote: Every livey went off today. Not one fresh bait at all
Great day out.. Pete has shown us a good time once again.. We all enjoy our days out with him.. Everything is catered for you.. All you need is a sense of humour.
Thanks again Pete
BK
That is awesome and funny! How the hell did you pull that anchor off the floor!!!!!
I did not know that was George, i seen him at CG once, will say hi next time.
Poor Neil standing on the end with no fish!!! I hope you guys shared? hehe.
On a side note, how do you guys find Kings to eat, i only rate them fair when cooked but good when prepared as Sashimi, i have heard so many differing opinions from people, mates up at QLD hate them, say they are just as bad as Mack Tuna when cooked? I hate them cooked, maybe i should start another thread and see peoples opinions and maybe a poll?
Nevertheless sounds like you guys had a blast. Well done to you all.
Well done! Definitely a 9 kg Kingie, and if you add the weight of the bloke in the middle it would be even bigger.
Thanks for sharing with us. Great pics.
Cheers

Funny post Jed :hellyeah:
I liked the bit about George's biggest fish being 0.005m longer !
Glad you didn't use the above title 'Anchors Away'.
I hate to think what dodgy would have done with a theme about sailors & N.Y.!

top fishboys, neil did u manage to throw your popper rod around?
Great report Jed, I didn't get the prize today, but I'll be back to beat George's by 0.5m (!!) the next time around.
It was an excellent day out as always it's a pleasure to spend time with this gang - I've already talked my wife into getting me the next charter for my Xmas pressie, and will round up the usual suspects when it gets closer to the time.
Nath, I did chuck the poppers around with the new stick, it's a treat to use, but conditions weren't ideal with the kingies seeming to stay quite deep on the sounder, plus the wind was pretty persistent all day and made the chop a bit of a challenge.
Kamil, I let the guys take their fish - we (my family) were always going to have a curry last night, fish or no fish! BTW, I like my kingy shallow fried with the skin still on, crisp up the skin and serve with thai chilli, garlic and coriander sauce. Luverly.
Cheers

Hi guys
Great report Jed and it was a lot of laughs as usual. It was great to see you all again and look forward to getting you onto the dollies in the near future.
Chris, thank you for sharing your prized capture with me, I will enjoy the anchor and chain. It will be part of a new FAD in the near future.
I am sorry that the fishing wasnt as good as in previous days but I swear that the new moon isnt good for estuary kingy fishing and dont get me started about those mongrel squid.
Thanks guys for a great day and look forward to seeing you again.
Best wishes
Peter

My shirt was 2 sizes too big for me !:ohhh yeah:
Anyway I need a weighlifters body to pull those bloody anchors off the bottom, you should try it sometime Haji:luck:
Thanks again Peter and guys for a really fun day out,and as usual I learned a few new technique and tackle tips from Pete.He also drove the boat very expertly to dislodge that anchor (I just provided the muscle!)
Just for the record, this is what the birthday certificate my wife gave me looked like that paid for this trip. As I said earlier I've asked for another for Xmas!!

Speaking of new techniques. Pete is a world of wisdom.
All you need is a hard boiled egg... Freeze it.. And make a slingshot.. :ohhh yeah:
Once you have the above ingredients, give him a call, and he'll tell you where you can use(fire) it. :flamethrower:
And frozen oranges work as treat as well :rolling laughter::rolling laughter:
