View Full Version : land based fishing
hi ev1,thought i would ask a few questions in regards to my land based fishing as i dont have a boat so what are my chances..i go land based fishing a brooklyn just underneath the bridge on the otherside to where the boat ramp isnt with my son and i dont seem to have much luck everytime we are there,we are only using prawns and we go when high tide is just running through, all we are after is some nice size bream and have only caught throw backs that are not worthy of keeping, all i want to do is catch a nice size one to take home and show the misses that my 6 months so far of going fishing payed off.Is there no point of fishing on low tide and does weather play a part in catching fish, what is the best way to get something nice...cheers jason
If your going for bream try peeled fresh hawkesbury river prawns or some chook gut, use light line and use flurocarbon leaders. As for tides try to start fishing a couple of hours before the tide change then a couple of hours after.
For weather, with my fishing i have noticed that i normalley catch bugger all when its windy, rain sometimes will bring on the fish and ive found the stinking hot days were you dont want to be out there are normalley good for fishing.

Go with lures!!! :upside down hello:
Try Kangaroo Point Wharf on the run in or try just out from Parsley Bay ramp on the rocky point there, even off the breakwall if you walk around to the right of the ramp and fish off the breakwall towards the moored yachts there. Probably have more luck there, alsp try using chicken breast or peel your prawns that might help.
mate.
if i was you i would go to old mans hat (near north head) and try catch some kings on fresh squid under a float.
in jan feb march you would have a good chance of hooking one. prob hard to land the fish if land based so dont be disheartened if you loose a few.
just use heavy gear. or just go land based at wallis lake near forster at coomba park in feb/march of the jetty. you will catch **** loads of flatties, whiting and bream. easily get dinner. take the missus up.
