Fireline Crystal, has or does anyone use it?
Got some today and it looks good?
Also Berkely have some nice cheap lures out, has anyone used them too? Got a nice popper today want to try it on the Bass. For $3 lures they are awesome!

My days of using Fireline for light line applications are long gone. Not to say there's anything wrong with it, but IMO the PE braids that come out of the Daiwa, Linesystem and Sunline (ect.) stables are much nicer.
The Crystal version is pretty much exactly the same as normal Fireline, but translucent.
I also generally prefer braids that are highly visible.
Cheers Alex, i thought it was the same stuff but clear, have you seen their lures? Not bad things.

Berkley? Nah their lures are sh*t. :rolling laughter:
There lures are good Kamil & Crystal Fireline is slightly thinner than colored models & is awsome, personally I like the 2&3lb Crystal main line for plastics or blades (for bream) & use 8lb PE main lines for HB's & surface work.
Stren Microfuse seems pretty good also in 2lb. a little easier to see as it sorta glows blue.
Sorry shoulda maybe also asked for what application & what line class ? more accurate answer that way.
Thanks Greg, i got 6lb its just for my Bait rod, but i will use it to throw poppers and small plastics and hard bodies for Bream and Flathead etc. I just hated not having Braid on my bait rod, as mono always needed to be replaced and i never could cast light lures with it. All sounds good though.

What's your "bait rod"?
Alex, its a $15 Custom(my own mods)Silstar rod, with a fx2000 Shimano on it, my fav combo! hehe
Im not expecting to catch award winning fish on plastics with it. But i believe you can catch fish with this set up without having to buy a Rack Raider or Symmetre etc etc.

Not true!!! Only the best gear catches fish. Or at least decent fish. :upside down hello: :rolling laughter:
If you can get the distance in your casting then there shouldn't be a problem.
Is 30m far enough!
Hmmm, never heard that about the gear before? I guess you need the good stuff if you have no clue on what you are doing???:2gunsfiring_v1::pottytrain1::upside down hello:

Fishing tackle is designed to catch fishermen not fish.

Funny discussion kamil....Are you really saying spending $100 on a rod and around $100 on a reel is too much:noway:....Mentioning low to middle of the range shimano gear is far from the best and only a small step above what you've got. Would make more sense talking bout spending $1000 on a reel and the same on a rod and not being into comps or sponsored-game gear and specialty heavy salt could be excluded from this.
:confused2::banghead:
:rolling laughter: it's not nessasary, but it's well worth it !!!
what do you chase ya beakies with Kamil. a 15yo dirty okhuma, I think not.
Horses for coarses, when ya make around 600+ casts in a day & then still have 2 or 3 days to go, its worth every cent.
& honestly everyone i've taken out lurefishin who was a baity thinks the same & then wonders why I catch 3,4,5 & not a tap, then I say here put that piece of sh1t down & use this, all of a sudden they are on or saying, "FARK" how come i can feel every little piece of weed or the gravel pieces on the bottom with your rods & not with my one.
I LOVE THAT !!!!
Oh and not meaning to offend anyone from Okhuma, but you know this anyway right.:pottytrain1:

2 GRAND ON A ROD + REEL:rolling laughter::rolling laughter:
Geez you guys have lost the plot :rolling laughter: No offence to anyone but thats just CRAZY !!!
I havent brought a rod + reel for over $100 bucks !! and im very happy with that gear !! :headbang:
And yeah i know im not throwing lures around all day ;; im just sitting down with bait ;; and im more then happy doing that :headbang: thats what i call fishing !!
I seen a few lures at the local that other day and they were 30 BUCKS each :rolling laughter: i through stuff that i can buy 3 kg + prawns with that

Im saying that spending $100 on a Bream Rod and $100 on a Bream Reel, well you got to be sick!!!!!! Unless you fish comps, but i still question that!
I understand it makes it much more comfortable but to catch Bream and spend $100's on one outfit, to ME its silly!
My $40 Shimano Fx 2000 i reckon has caught more fish than you guys would care to believe! From legal Kings to 2kg Jews and not to mention everything else! The bait the squid, the BReam, Trevally!, Tailor, Flattys.
And yes Greg our last Beakie came from an old Okuma and we still got it! And yes Okuma are crapola! FULL STOP!
Each to their own, anyway i asked about Berkely, not if its a good idea to buy expensive gear:banghead:

Well said greg, the rest aint worth responding too!:rolling laughter:
I'v used the line you mentioned kamil and found sunline casted better and laid more evenly on the spool, was also slightly smaller diameter in 2kg weight. I'm using pioneer on my mid size spinning reel and its great value for money.
Guess if you want to stay on topic dont stray from it in the first place.:rolling laughter::rolleyes::rolling laughter:

Some of the $20+ lures are worth every cent. I'm talking about SX-40's and the likes. However there are good lures that are cheaper, but having said that I have used the cheap stuff like those bloody $3 Surecatch Poppers...NEVER AGAIN! They're absolute sh*t, the hooks are rubbish and the build quality is pathetic. The things start to crack after a few sessions. :noway:
Each to their own, spend as much as you want but I do think that better gear pays off in the end. There is a big difference between bait fishing and lure fishing, but again if you're happy with the performance of your outfit then there shouldn't be a problem.
P.S. I'm off to buy a new flick stick for the breamz. :upside down hello: It should only cost around $200-250, so it's not too expensive. I may give it a run tomorrow if the wind's good.

All right! Got it for $195! Bargain! Along with a few lures.
Ok thanks for the replies, i would spend that much money on a rod and reel to tackle Marlin, a once in a lifetime fish which can test a persons tackle if not up to scratch, but to spend that much to catch Bream, seriously........
And Jason, ive used Sunline and most other braids, dont tell me Sunline lays better on the spool, its the REEL that determines whether braid is laid nicely on it or not!!! Not the Braid itself!
Spend more time with the surecatch poppers CR, they are alot of guys favourite lure for poppering racks & mangroves, cheap & nasty maybe, but highly effective & cost ya f/all when you do get stitched.
Key to them is fast fast fast.

I was catching some fish on them, but I also lost a few because of them. One time the rear tow ring pulled out when I has a big(ish) flatty on. :ranting2:
I prefer better poppers that will last. Also some of them had dodgy ball wights which made them sit sideways in the water. Rubbish.
they dont get time to sit in the water hahaha, thats what i'm saying work em fast fast fast

A pack of three of them actually costs around $17, because you gotta buy some Owner hooks to go with them!!!
I dunno, I think I'll stick with some better ones, but I might buy a packet. I doubt it though.

Kamil yes in part I agree it has to do with the reel but also the braid as theyre not all the same, some are more supple than others, some have heavier coatings on them so please don't try and say its only the reel.
C'nR my favourite lure still is a et special from big w-cost $5 and still works great, the coloured coating has mostly come off, i'v replaced the hooks and rings.
I'v recently purchased a couple of better quality lures that are around the $20 mark and they havent let me down.
SX 40's are good, but not as good as others & not Berkley like Kamil was asking about.:smiile:

So kamil, how's your line going????
Quick update on my raider-yea the new mexico special and the symetre-casts: more than you could imagine
fish caught: Bass(too many to 46cm), flatties to 2kg, bream-none, trevs-a few, kings-2 not quite legal, salmon-a few, 1 PJ, 2 gummies, taylor 60cm average, carp-too many.-reel is getting on 2yrs old.
How would I rate spending what I did on the reel and would've on the rod if it wasn't given in exchange for some theatre work-well....the drag is still smooth, no noises-wobbles or probs at all, maintenance port has been used and reel still is far from needing a service. Rod allows long and accurate casts with light lures and jig heads, tiny nibbles and most underwater structure is felt, ideal taper to suit the 5 different purposes it covers-think of it as really 5 $20 combo's in one but much better.
Would I trade it for something cheaper-nah.....My last combo was a penn silver series special which now is used as a bait'n'squiddin rod cause its no good for anything else -drag is shot-bail arm wont click into place unless you do it by hand, anti reverse has issues and theres a special clunky grinding noise when you catch a fish on retrieve.
My line is fine, ive used Fireline for the last decade nearly and loved it.

your line must've cost more than the combo it is on:ohhh yeah::yahoo:
