It was in the papers that NSW is planning to have all regular unleaded replaced by E10 (which is an UP to 10% mix NOT a mandated regular 10% mix).
Is anyone here in the marine motor industry that can give us the official view of the manafacturers on the use of E10 blends V's the premium blend unleaded which will still be sold (BUT is more expensive). Also does it effect 2 stroke?

Tony, I asked my local johno dealer this question and he told me to use the 95 or 98ron fuel for outboards and every once in a while use carbi cleaner mixed in to keep things running well-the ethanol can in some cases cause issues with seals. On a different note the ethanol fuel killed the fuel pump in my commodore-I won't use the stuff.:noway:

Hey jas mate its a common problem with that year model commodore, they started planning up in 1988 when the VN Commodore was launched, they used that same pump up unitll the VS, I had changed heaps when i was working at Dale Ford. I use E10 In My MALOO No problems no pinging, and still Cracks Thirds:headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:

So Mick, by that do you mean anything before VN's have a better chance of having a problem with it or everything up to and including the VS?

Hey tom yes correct!!! the first fuel injected motor released by holden was the VL Straight 6 but it was made by Nissan. The VN started having the problem and was rectified when they brought out the VT. Previous to the VL models fuel pumps were mechanical.

You know your holdens HSV, I am suprised you would use it in your R8-dont holden recommend 98ron for your engine? Many vehicles do run fine on e10 though.
The great ethanol debate will be there for many years. As was mentioned it does cause seal problems occasionally in certain vehicles. I would avoid using it in outboards due to the potential safety risk of a breakdown. Use regular or premium for peace of mind also knowing that they are proven to cause no harm to engines.

I know my holdens well FF...i have to disagree with you....about using it in my R8 its clearly marked on my fuel tank cover thats is E10 Approved....with outboards i really dont know....so i cant comment...

I've had 1st hand expirience with this ethanol crap.

Suggest replacing rubber fuel lines with either alloy or S/S if you're going to use it.

It's made from plants [sugar cane] & once the octane evaporates you're left with a gunky residue which will block up your fuel lines if boat sits idle for a few months.

Rubber hose will play havoc with your fuel alot more than metal fuel lines but dont take my word.

get a 4 litre container [tin can ] run a rubber fuel line from block the fuel line @ other end, prick a hole in the tin can to act as a breather leave rubber fuel line lying on ground, come back in a couple of months & check out the fuel lines.

If it's been hot weather you'll find hose will be blocked.

E10 may be allright in cars but not boats, cars do a good turn around of fuel, whereas a boat can sit there for a velly long time

I gave you nothing to agree or disagree with HSV. You are free to decide what fuel you use in your car. My aussie car knowledge stops with the VT and I was not aware holden recommended using e10 in the late model HSV vehicles. It is a good thing as it would save you a lot in fuel costs.

Well i have proof that E10,IS wrecking up your car in one way or another.
My Toyota hiace, the new fuel pump [ 3 months old] is crapped it self.the guy from NRMA,asked if i use E10 ,a few times i replied,He said dont use it ,it wears away the seals n not good on rubber. Thus the reason for my fuel pump.

Now i hope i dont see some smart ASS coming up with an explanation.
