Trolling is something i really struggle with! What gear do i use how much line do i let out? trace etc? i have no idea but i assume its quite a different rig to just dropping your line over the side of your tinny!
and where do you troll in the manly north/south head middle harbour area???

thanks in advance

For the area you are trolling i would suggest any 10kg outfit will suffice,15kg max. You have to troll in close to the wash off the headlands. Trolling is usually only good when it is a bit rough. Troll as close to land as you can. The lures i would recommend are for in close to the boat, any Rapala Magnum type CD-7 to 11, in red/white head, or mackeral colours. Then spacing as you go back are some skirted lures lie Pakula Uzis or McGoo 6" pushers. Other lures that work well are Barra Maulers by the Producers for about $6 which can be placed close to the boat, Troll these and you will do ok. The skirted lures need to be rigged on say 50lb to 80lb MAX, while the diving minnoes on 30lb using a Harrison Loop knot i think it is from memory so the lure swims right. You do not need to place the lures far back behind your boat, the last lure somewhere around the end of the prop wash. Troll at around 6knots.
