Fished Broughton Island on Saturday 29/7 for what was probably my last shot in the area before it becomes a Marine Park Sanctuary Zone.
The fishing was pretty quiet by its usual standards but this beastie came to the party. We also fished Sunday for a handful of rats and a lone sambo.
Broughton Island and Port Stephens in general is such a fantastic location it will be such a shame to see many of the best fishing locations become a no take zone at the expense of recreational anglers. The draft map appears tailor made to suit professional fisherman.
Now is the time to have your say, it only take 2 minutes and can be done online:
Visit this page: http://www.mpa.nsw.gov.au/psglmp/psglmp.htm for info on the proposed boundaries for the park, including maps etc.
Visit this page to make your submission: http://www.mpa.nsw.gov.au/psglmp/submission.html

Fish like this are just a small sample of what is on offer at Port Stephens. This area is a recreational fishing paradise and it is about to be taken away from us. Speak up NOW while you still can!

As said elsewhere, top fish guys. Very very sad about the Marine Parks. Literally heartbreaking!

Don't lose hope boys.

If we make enough noise now, then we stand a real chance of stopping the MP dead in it's tracks. There have been some rumblings from within the government, thinking that they may have got their stance on MP's wrong. This close to an election, they cannont afford to get so many people of side.

So keep at 'em, and tell them what you really think. I know everyone has more than one email account. Use them all, and send heaps of emails telling them what you think.

Unfortunately Jo I think they are pretty much a certainty now! The best we can hope for I think is a better deal as far as the zoning goes. The MPA people have BIG plans for expansion so what we start with is just the begining.
I actually support the creation of Marine Parks but supported by science and in a fair end equitable manner for rec fishos. Basically the exact opposite of what is happening.
