View Full Version : kayak lures
has anyone got an idea on which lures would be best used from
the back of a kayak (trolling) I have used small halco and alike
but i don't get up enough speed for them to work correctly.
I'm going to be using them around mccarrs creek and scotland island
I haven't managed to take any kayaks on lure! Ah no, that's not what you are asking.
I've done a fair bit of trolling from my yak. Most of it is with shallow diving lures like SX40, Halco scorpion etc over flats or in skinny creeks. These are very easy to use form the yak as they work best at a very slow speed. Just paddle until the lure starts working, as shown by wobbling of the rod tip. You can vary the speed occasionally, but your mean speed should be at the lower end of the lure's action. A lot of fish are taken when slowing down.
I have had success on salmon and tailor trolling a CD7. Again, working at the lower end of the lures action, which is less than a steady paddling speed.
Good luck

G'day
I used to do a bit of trolling in botany bay for tailor, bonnies, kings. It was from a boat but the lures i used will probably be ok for the kayak. the first ones the old pink squid the choppers could not help then selfs they had 2 eat it. The other lures arapala husky jerk 5cm this lure was sensational with abuilt in rattle and agood size not to scare of many fish.with the jerking movement of paddling a kayak i think this lure would be excelent.:mullet: :1fishing1:
