The boat looks great !! :ohhh yeah:
Still cant get over it only being 510, Looks very deep for its size :hellyeah:
:luck: With everything :yahoo:
Looking good
Hope you don't mind me suggesting a couple of things
Fuel bulb will gradually kink fuel hose due to it's position and weight. Also check that fuel hose is the ethanol proof stuff if it didn't come with the motor. You may want to consider mounting it on the other side of fuel filter ( check with someone) as thet suck at sucking through a filter but are good at pumping fuel through them.
Glare off the masthead all round will give you the craps. Place a 30cm ally disc 10cm underneath it.
Side nav lights may no be easilly seen as the boat rolls and a picky officer will pick that up also if casting on the drift at night they will not be visable if you are beside or foward of the console. they will also produce lots of glare on side of hull and stuff your night vision.
If your scuppers have rubber on them make sure it is petrol resistant especially with the fuel water drain just above it.
Get it on the water to check it out
Probably worth a motor cover as well as they seem to mark easily.

I love it fantastic
Good call Ganet, that fuel bulb does look like a problem waiting to happen.
True, they pump far better than they suck, they also work better if they're pointing uphill.
Does anyone make a boat with nav lights that comply I wonder?
Does anyone who writes regulations actually ever been on a boat!!!! Still you want to be able to be seen as it might just stop some idiot hitting you.
Fuel restriction or airation is one of the few things that injected motors computers can't recognise easily and they run so lean thse days that it can kill them quickly. Non genuine fuel bulbs in large v6 motors have also killed a lot because they can have a smaller bore than hose size.
Very nice Haji. You will have a lot of good times on the water, in that boat. Wonder how much spray you will cop in a chop.
Gee haji what a great looking boat.....and all the work you put into it well done..:ohhh yeah::ohhh yeah:I know where i am taking my boat to fitted out :beerchug::beerchug:
P.S if you need a deckhand im ready to go..:jumping red:
Thanks for your interest, advice and complimentary remarks guys. That is what I love about this site when it is working as intended.
Turning to your observations:
Fuel filter / Bulb
I was not aware of the potential problem with kinking of the hose. Will check out what type of hose JD's Boatshed fitted.
The hose on the L/H side of the filter goes to the tank, the R/H side goes back into the boat and then comes back to the motor via the large hose/netting. The bulb does push fuel through, not sucks it.
I still have to trim the length of the hoses either side of the filter, the slack arose as a result of my working in the rear battery compartment (moved the battery to make room for the deckwash pump) Also, the ally pipe through the deck of the transom (where the fuel hose goes to the tank) is not sealed which means that water spashed over the transom will be able to make its way into the hull. I intend to fix that using a split section of garden hose and Sikaflex.
Masthead Light / Nav Lights
They are always a compromise aren't they? I fitted the nav lights to the windscreen frame at the exact level that they were originally mounted on the console. I thought about mounting them higher but the rules state that for vessels under 12M "The masthead or white light shall be carried at least one metre above the side lights." The factory fitted white light was mounted on the gunwale at the rear of the boat. The light stem plugged into a socket when you needed it resulting in the light being about level with the side lights. In other words, not legal.
As the white light is currently fitted it is about 1 meter above the side lights. So the location of the side lights is a compromise, but the whole nav lighting instalation is hopefully much better than the factory fitted unit.
I know what you mean about the light spoiling your night vision and driving you nuts. Unfortunately the height restrictions when I fold the screen down to get in and out of my garage means that the top light has to fold down. So not possible to permanently fit a screen under the light. But I sure am going to try to work out some way to incorporate your idea Ganet, maybe a shield that I can slip on and off as required.
Scuppers
They do have soft rubber seals, some form of foam that will probably not last very long. I will keep my eye on them as we go.
I did remove the scuppers to try to prevent early corrosion of them. Found that both the transom metal under the scuppers and the back of the scuppers had not been painted. Also only a smear of sealant had been applied with the result that the bare, unsealed parts of the surfaces were already showing signs of surface corrosion. I cleaned them up, etch primed the metal, then three coats of spray pack (supplied by Trailcraft with the boat) and reinstalled the scuppers using a liberal coating of Sikoflex and SS metal thread screws. Where the screws pass throughthe transom I fitted flanged, hard plastic insulation washers to help minimise corrosion from electrolysis.
Motor Cover
I have always been wary of motor covers thinking that they may restrict air flow into the motor as well as retaining salt water between the cowl and the cover which could cause deterioration of the paintwork.
Is that any cause for concern? What is everyones experience of using them?
I certainly like the idea of protecting all parts of the boat as much as possible.
KKW
I hope that the boat will be as "dry as a bone" in all conditions. But, given that it is a centre console I expect that at least my crew will cop some spray, particularly quartering into any sort of sea. Still. that's what crew are for aren't they? Daniel and HSV won't mind the spray as long as they get a ride will they?
Thanks again for your input, it is much appreciated.
cheers
Haji
You can just suport the hose and bulb as a easy fix and I wouldn't cut much off fuel hose from tank as they do get sun damage and that way in 18months or so time you can cut off 15cm and reclamp without replacing whole line.
Fitted motor covers do protect from sun damage and marks from line rub etc. I've used them as there is a comfy spot to sit on the transom with feet on cowl. Good ones aren't cheap and have just rinsed them now and again and rubbed some polish or wax over the cowl so it looks new. Thieves like em but then again they like anything these days. Dear thief please return mine.
With that in mind have you thought about data dot so you can identify boat, trailer , motor and any equipment if it does go walkies. Some insures are offereing discounts if you have it done.
Wouldn't be a boat unless there was sometyhing else to do and someone with another opinion and there is always plenty of solutions.
We should all shut up so you don't have to consider any of this and instead get out on the water!!!
I'm betting the curse of the tapered thread filter elbow is still haunting your decisions Haji. LOL
That fuel riser pipe is a bit exposed, I hope DC chips in and tells us what he did with his fuel lines.

Daniel and HSV won't mind the spray as long as they get a ride will they?
No not at all
:rolling laughter::lol:
Hi haji
Nah i wont mind the spray ......
Also i use a genuine Yamaha motor cover for my motor. I never take it off only for cleaning every now and then. Cause they are a genuine cover you can drive with on..i bought mine from Hunt marine Around the $250 mark......

Now why didn't I think of that! Good thinking 99

PS; will be some time before I can get it in the water, having knee injection tomorrow that will require me to stay of my feet for a couple of days then go on hols to NZ on Sunday. back 15 March. Anyone want to borrow the beast and run it in for me? Yeah Right!
A knee injection!!! I just got back from the Doc's. Was fishing off the rocks yesterday, and saw a couple of big swells humping up. First one hit me at waist level and the second looked a lot bigger. As I was leaping up the rocks to higher ground, I heard something like an elastic band snapping and felt as though someone had hit me with a slingshot. Was all I could do to prevent my leg collapsing. I knew what it was, as it happened a couple of years back. Tore a calf muscle. Took me an hour to hobble back to the car, and then I thought I wouldn't be able to change gears, as it was my left leg. Ice and compression bandages for me. I have a left leg like Arnie's. Calf muscle is twice as big as the right one. I'm with you Haji. Feet up and watching the TV :(

BOATS LOOKING GOOD HAJI, MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT ITS TO PRETTY FOR THE WATER. wHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT THAT? MAYBE DIRT OF A BIG SCRATCH. :bricks:
Hey Ganet, who is this "Data Dot" girlfriend of yours? Mrs Haji won't allow other women on the boat.
And Crusher, don't you worry about the boat getting dirty. Once Simon, Daniel, HSV, Tom and all the other people that have made me promise to take them out find out how much of a fish magnet the boat is and start putting blood and guts all over it she will be fine. Roll on 16 March when I get back from hols. Yeaaaaaaah!!!
No, really, I am not a bit excited about going out in it, truly, I just sit in it all day and practise using the GPS and sounder. Turn the lights on and off. raise and lower the motor, dry run the leccie, move fishing gear around to find the best place to store it, look for more ways to improve the layout etc etc. You know, perfectly rational behaviour for a boaty with a new boat.
Cheers
