 Guys bass season is upon us. Put the bream gear away and hit the river. i have been out on two sessions in the past week and have had a great time. The first session was a week ago, all the signs were almost there, willows shooting, dragonflies starting to get about. mullet and carp crusing. My first walk along one of the eastern creeks produced 3 nice bass in 45 mins. The first went 38cm to the fork followed by a 35 and a 32. I think you forget how well they pull when you dont target them for a while...once again I am bass addicted.
Its great to get the break out the baitcaster and the hunderds of pretty lures in the tackle box, and to sort through then all trying to decide which one will be the the one that will produce today, what colour will i choose for this murky blue water, which rubber will be the one that will get all the hits on the beetle spin? (the answer to that one is a small sour grape slider).
I went out again today, the main river this time. After a conversation with a couple of mates we all took off from work(a little early i admit!) and headed up the river from the Windsor boat ramp. After the first 20 minutes the first fish smashed the beetle spin it went 350mm to the fork. Within another 10 casts Al was on with a 32. Confidence was on a high....400 casts later on a harder running tide we were starting to scratch our heads. In the next hour or so only 1 ep was landed. A change of tactics was required. We tried all sorts of thinghs but it was not until we hit the shallows that the fish turned on. We ended up with anothe 9 or 10 fish in the next two hours ranging from 10cm...if we were lucky to a couple that were in the mid to high 20's..It was a fantasic way to spend an arvo with a couple of mates, a few beers and a bit of fun.And a few nice fish. All within a couple of minutes from home.
