hi all.

I've got a tinny,
1993 model (i think, that's what i got off the HIN)
4.4m, by 1.7m (at it's widest point).

it's got a yamaha 15hp which will be serviced.

is it 'middle harbour' worthy? can i cross from manly over to mosmon?

can i have a few hints on how to 'attack' the wave?

my friend told me 35-45 degrees.

i filled up the 22L fuel tank,
but when i saw it later (after getting home), the cap was a bit loose. (wasn't on tight)
i fear water may of seeped in.
i've been told putting methylated spirit will dissolve the water.
is this a good idea?
or is it not worth the damage to the motor

i also put the oil mixture as 1:50 (used for another outboard),
but the yamaha is 1:100.

is it okay for the motor?
i've been told it'll just be smokey, and it wouldn't be bad for the motor.

really anything can get to middle harbour it just depend on the swell and the wind. i have paddled to manly in my kayak to go fishing but that is when bondi is dead flat

Its fine champ, just keep going out and you will learn how to drive the boat.
45deg on swell is fine, if small chop hit them face on and should be good.

boat should be fine, tack into wind and waves as it will be more comfortable, but remember- your not driving on tar, and if you feel uncomfortable, turn back till you get more experience and do. 15 may be a bit slow but will get you there. would ditch the fuel and start again

Ok, you say water may have seeped in? Why? Was the tank outdoors over a few nights or was it rained on?

Fuel mix should be ok, more oil than needed will be a little smoky and could also foul plugs. 50:1 is the yammy wear in mix so I expect there would be no probs.

Well it was raining the day i filled the tank up.
tank was on the back of the boat, which was on a trailer.

I did close the lid tight, but i guess all the bumps on the road on the way home loosened the cap.

the cap was still on, but i could smell petrol had spilled a bit

thanks for your replies.

I talked to my boat mechanic about the water,

what he told me was to put the fuel into another container,
and due to the density of water, and the fact that oil+water don't mix, the water should remain at the bottom,

so i'll chuck out the bottom 2L.

how should i dispose of the 2L?
