Tom, squid are funny little buggers, some times their there and some time there not. The key is to find them so keep walking along the beach or bord walk and working the weed bed's retrieve should be really slow and as close to the bottom as you can get it. If your not catching weed on occasion your not close enough. When you hook one keep an even presure on the line and make sure you get the jig back in as quickly as poss as there is always more than one there. Clifton does have them so to does the spit so be patient and work the kelp beds. Good luck.

thanks lizard
i must be more patient
good to know they are there :)
The hardest part about catching squid is perseverence.
I find myself sitting there saying, "this will never work, no squid will never take this thing".
Keep trying though and you'll come up trumps. I've caught them in 2m and in 25m of water too. Wherever there's weed you'll find squid.
There seems to be no rules too with jigs. Try diferent sizes and colours and try scent as well.
Try casting you jigs at the other end of the wharf, along the pool net. Plenty to be had there.
