hey buddy i nearly bought a boat with the same thing happening. turned out to be electrolcys how ever u spell it. was from stainless steel bolts instead of alloy pop rivets. apparently it only gets worse. but if it is cheap i dont see the problem. i just got 5metre centre console brand new for 14.8k. you have seen mine to. so there is something to compare to for price.

It's exactly that Daniel. You can isolate the screws to prevent it, or use aluminium pop rivets

As said above it is electrolysis a reaction between the ally and the stainless (basically the boat is corroding to protect the stainless bolts/rod holders) to prevent it/ slow it down/stop it use a product like duralac or silicon, sikaflex (all from bias/whitworths or even bunnings for the silicon)..when applied to any different metals like stainless bolts the yellow crap (duralac) gets everywhere builds a barrier between them if done right will stop electrolysis damaging the ally boat.

In my boat ive been pulling out the all stainless bolts, screws coating them in duralac and refitting them, as with the stainless pop rivits ive been slowly drilling them out and replacing them with ally ones.

Another note be sure to remove all lead sinkers and steel hooks from the hull of your ally boat as electrolysis between these metals will also damage your boat ....after every day hose down and pull up the floors of you ally boat and have a look for rogue sinkers etc.

This is just good to remember for all your ally boats...small to large!
Im currently working on a 38m Ally boat and we follow this prevention system (and we have ALOT of different metals on board)
