Hey Guys,
just a quick report, but unfortunately no pictures.
Saturday and sunday i had to do cleaning, and take my old man to get a dvd player etc, so boat was ruled out.. But after spotting the tide being just after lunch both days, i decided i would take my light flick sticks down to careel bay flats, and have a bit of a whiting fish...
As i didnt have time to get live bait i thought i would go and get some worms, 2 servos in avalon, neither with worms... so i got some prawns and off i went.. (oh i took my dad saturday and went by myself sunday...)
Arrived about an hour before the high, and there was mullet and small whiting everywhere... I thought to myself (thats always the way when i dont bring my mullet trap) anyways, we put on our prawns and waded out about 30 - 50 m (only knee deep) and had a few casts..
for the first hour there ware plently of small bream to be had, and i kept missing big strikes (which i thought may have been flatties) anyways, just about on high tide my rod gets a massive strike.. and my drag starts going.. on 4 pound braid with a 6 pound leader....
then i see it, this mini marlin looking think starts jumping out about 50 m infront of me...
after a good 10 minute fight, in which my dad went to get me a net and bring it over, i netted a 60cm long tom... I was extatic.. never got one in sydney...
Re baited, filled my pocket with prawns and back i went... I was hooking and dropping for about an hour after the first hookup, ended up landing 4 big sukkas.. smallest of around 50 cm.
after that they went off the bite, and i knew it was time to head home... kept them for fillet baits for snapper next weekend...
Went back on sunday, around the same time, just took lures this time.. metals, and plastic, bibs and bibless... the metals were the best, maybe due to the abitlity to cast further and cover more ground...
anyways, got 1 small long tom 30cm went back.. got 1 monster 35cm mullet (on a metal lure) and a whole bunch of hookups which were dropped...
Great weekends of fishing for me, as i had a great time, going back to basics, and saving a bucket load - spent 8 dollars i think on the whole weekends fishing incl my bottle of water...
Cant wait for summer should be a good one...
