'Nother hard days work with wind and nor east swell not making things easy, but still fish about.
jigged a few yakkas pretty quick early and moved on to the squid, thinking about a downrig in middle harbour.
after getting plenty of squid we went back for a couple more yakkas and ended up with some nice size slimies also good size for downrigging so the stage was set.
Couple of hours work with fish hard to find we eventually hooked up hard - two nice fat squid bellied kings boated. (see pic of mate with the first one)
an hour more and high tide approaching saw no more Kings we decided it was time to find a few structure oriented fish.
Sounded out a few wrecks and markers around the joint till we found a decent school of fish inside north harbour
two more 75cm kings from there put us in a good mood again, though we had some massive bust ups on substantially bigger fish - mostly kings but one was on a dead squid on the bottom which felt like a B I G jewy. :1badmood:
Why is it always on the lightest gear in the boat!!

anyway pretty happy to avoid yesterdays tailor maulings

Hey Stef, so the kings are in North Harbour....where you far up (as in in toward Forty Baskets and the moorings), or just at the mouth of the estuary?

cheers

edge of the moorings near reef beach - we berleyed pretty hard after we'd found em, but we still only had em for 20 to 25 mins, it didn't seem like they were staying round.

thats a good effort getting a 75cm from there. Will have to give it a try over the weekend. Were you using a live yakka or squid?

live squid.
there were some decent fish in the school tho, closer to 85. think they're on the prowl around nth harb but we lucked out good. there was nothing on dobby or quarrantine......
would have gone to bluey but for the swell

Nicely done on the Kings.
Where did you get the squid? Ive been hunting around but found that the squid seem a bit hard to come by lately.

mostly off the kelp beds around middle head and shack bay, but because most of the bigger squid have recently bred and moved on most of the squid about are tiny and only taking tiny jigs. i found the blue and green yama****a in size 1.7 to be the best!
