Hey everyone,
Just getting started into serious fishing and need some advise. I could ask the local fish tackle shop which I do but I would like to learn from you guys as well.
1. Tuna oil...just bought 500ml and was wondering should I soak my soft and hard bodies over night?
2. I have 20lt bucket which I have made holes on the side all around about 4inchs high from the bottom...homemade burely bucket :-) I planning to put bread insdie with the tuna oil. Should I again soak the bread over night?
3. Guy at tackle shop said to even dip fresh bait before I bait it on the hook...is this really needed? eg: strip of squid dipped into tuna oil is it going to make a huge difference?
Thats all I have so far :-)
Cheers

Dont bother putting lures in the tuna oil mate ..
It will just come of as soon as the lure hits the water.
If your serious bout lure scents you can get products called S factor or something like that.
Theres a few brands of it.
Alex [ catchnrelease ] will know more bout this.
Make a burley mix up yourself mate..
All i do is get
1 Loaf of bread
1 Cheap box of homebrand weetbix [[ You should be able to make a few mixes with a box ]]
1 Bottle of tuna oil [[ Will also last you a few mixes ]]
1 Litre of boiled water
1 Bucket for making the burley in
All you do is put a layer of weetbix [ mushed up ] on the bottom of the bucket than cover that with some bread..
Than put weetbix on top of the bread and repeat this about 6 times.
Than boil 1 litre of water and pour it on top..
Than you put about 3 or 4 cap fulls of tuna oil in and mix it all around.. Than cover up the bucket and throw it in the boat. By the morning it should be ready just put it in the burley bucket :)
This is a good burley i use :) You can drip the bait in tuna oil but i cant see the point i think it would just float of the bait by the time it hit to bottom also tuna oil aint cheap ! Dont worry bout it mate if the fish are there from your normal burley abit of tuna oil on your bait wont make a differences

Thank quintrex101 your a ledgend mate!!!
I'm going out on my day off on Tuesday and I will do what you have suggested.
I didn't think the oil on bait would make a difference.
It's just a matter of inticing fish to come to the bait isn't it :-)

no problems mate goodluck on tuesday
Dont know if the other fishos on here have the same problem but for me tuna oil is a bitch to get rid of. By that I mean your hands stink and if its in your clothes they will stink even after washing too. just be careful where it splashes. Cant say its given me great results when using it and dont actually use it any more. I agree with the other member who said get some S factor on your lures. That would be much better. stays on had bodies quite well also.
Good luck anyway mate.
Sorry to correct you Daniel, but tuna oil will stay on lures for a while & can help as with most scents, cant use it in tournaments I fish but other man made scents are used quite often & can produce results when its a tough bite.

ive known people who drill tiny holes in the ass end of their hardbodies and syringe tuna oil into them, so they have a constant trail of oil behind when they swim. not tournament legal obviously. the better man made scents mentioned earlier are pretty good anyway and stay on your lures well.

Wouldn't that completely ruin the lures buoyancy? It'd fill up with water wouldn't it? Unless it was some solid wooden lure instead of moulded plastic.

I definitely agree that the man made spray on scents work. I proved this to a mate of mine who wont get rid of his old skool tackle and techniques. I took him bream flicking in the oyster rack with squidgie blood worm wrigglers and he started to get little taps though he couldn't set the lure. So I pulled out my garlic scent spray and next cast WHAM:1yikes: he was into a steam train in the form of an blue nose bream that went 41cm to the fork.
After all that he still fishes the oyser racks with live poddies and peeled prawns.
