Just wondering if anyone can help. I have found a spot off the beach with a few schools of whiting, I have been targeting them with a running rig, a small ball sink above a swivel, a 60cm trace of 6lb mono and a small long shank hook with a small red bead above it. I have been fishing with beach worms (service station brought, not fresh). So far in my attempts i haven't caught any but have been plagued by dart.
Can anyone advise of any other baits or rigs that my help or of techniques which would help.
Any feedback is much appreciated.
Cheers
Jono
Have you tried small poppers? They love them. Blades too?

Surecatch popper's are good for the money mate. 3 in a pack for 10 bucks. The whiting seem to like the clear-ish bottom ones and dont stop when peeling the popper in :) Blades, Idunno havent got a whiting on one heaha but the strike pro seems to be my favorite it was only 15 bucks
sugapen poppers in the prawn design seem to be a winner in estuaries.
I don't know how they'd go off the beach if there is much wave action.
Are the worms covered in preservative? I have had trouble in the past using getting anything decent on preserved worms (even properly done ones from the tackle shop).

the worms don't seem to be preserved, they come in a bag with sand.
Might check out some poppers during the week. Thanks for the tips.
Not to much surf action at the moment so they might go alright.
blades r the go, if not learn how to get your own worms, it takes a while and some swearing but its well worth it
Blades for sure, small TT's & EcoGears or Berkley Big Eyes are probably the most consistant.
Next would be Gulp, shrimp, minnows or sand worms
but by far the most fun is on poppers, they slam em & play up way above their size. when they get up between 40-50cms they freakin SMOKE, heaps in the harbour.

I had a flick for them last night, only had half an hour of light by the time everyone had got off the beach.
First cast got a 33cm Whiting (my first one!!!!)
Every other cast got taken by flathead. They were like a plague.
Apparently there are hundreds of whiting out there though.
Will have to have another go hopefully after work this week.

Poppers at least 50-60mm long are the best, the little ones are always the most aggressive but the larger poppers tend to get more bigger fish than little ones.
dont pause the lure CRANK IT
