View Full Version : Lake Maquarie Marine Park
We'll it just gets funnier doesnt it.
While the Government is still boasting how good they are by using rec fishing funds to create RFH's like Lake Mac, they are now also considering a plan by the Marine Park Authority to turn parts of the same lake into no fish marine park zones. WTF ! :o You cant do both !
The Labour governemt has gone mad !
Paying a licence fee is seriously becoming a waste of money ( although its a scam anyway pretty much) Even if theory of a licence fund is correct, its still a waste when all these Marine Parks are being proposed. What are we ( allegedly ) paying for ! No point restocking the rivers when we cant fish them either.
Labour is so desperate for the Green vote they will try anything now, especially after the tunnell ****fight.
:x
I couldn't agree more mate. It seems that if they had thier way then the marine park would reach from the shoalhaven right up to Nambucca Heads.
Clowns is all that I can say.

Lee,
Sorry to burst you're bubble, but if you have a good look at the Marine Parks website you will see that their long term agenda is for marine parks to circumnavigate Australia. How much of the marine park where there is a total ban on fishing is anyone's guess.

Yep I agree that we should have marine parks to help fish population increase. Problem is when they are dead set on collecting votes from the greenies, they will be more than happy to sacrifice some of our best fishing areas up and down the coast.
Cheers
Lee
These people are such froot loops that they wont be happy until ALL forms of fishing are banned in every waterway under Australian control.
Bloody pisses me off that Labour will just about do anything to get votes regardless of the outcome.
I dont dissagree totally with the idea of protected marine environemts especially in certain endangered reef areas, but to ban your every day joe blow from hanging a line over in his local estuary to catch a feed or for fun is outrageous. How can rec fishing be banned in our coastal estuaries when it clearly supports the towns and communities built around them.
Show me where rec fishing has caused irrerversable damage to any waterway to the extent it requires a banning.
WAKE UP POLLIES !
Hopefully commonsense will prevail.
The last hope we have.....
ECOFISHERS!

Whoa! I think some of the green argument centres around the damage done by boats anchoring on soft and hard corals and damage also done to seagrasses as these are critical habitat to ensure biodiversity. Problem is to recognise there are other ways of preventing such damage i.e no anchoring zones or designated buoys to anchor to.
If a viable alternative is suggested then the pollies will go with the method that serves most of the community. If you can't offer a choice then they go with the method suggested by the lunatic mob. Fishermen need to be inventive and provide practical solutions to achieve an acceptable outcome.
tell me more.. I though ECOFISHERS were a QLD based mob only but obviously that may be wrong. What about TFP Joe still connected ?

Yes I am still connected Grant...but rather tentavely it seems!
ECOFISHERS were brought to my attention a while ago, but I thought they had gone quiet. But apparently thay have gathered a bit of steam and are moving forward. I dont know too much just yet, but expect to hear more in the very near future!
If you ask the question out here in the open forum, I'm sure my "Deep Throat" will get the right answers and let me know! :D :D

Yeah but they are not banning boats anchoring in estuaries they are trying to ban fishing ! How does fishing hurt the corals or weed beds.

I don't think so Grant - I understand that they are a committee group formed from ANSANSW and headed by Rob Burston who I think is located in the Illawarra. Recently Harvey Taylor OAM [for service to rec fishing in Tas - he stopped the importation of salmon products - amongst other things] has come on board to offer practical advice and to help with lobbying [he is a highly respected lobbyist] the Feds. Lessons Harvey learnt the hard way can be passed on to make life a bit easier.
ECOFishers is trying to unite the clubs and myriads of single issue fishing groups into one united voice - if that can be achieved then the rec fishers will have an exceptionally powerful voice, possibly far stronger than any green party. Of course they have problems with logistics as they don't have a strong platform from which to disseminate information and the guys involved still have to work to keep a roof over their heads.
come on spill the beans whats going on with TFP
Your right Bluecod i was thinking of ECOFISH not ECOFISHERS, sounds like a good thing, i think Jim Harnwell gave them a plug in his mag.

Exactly Grant! It is often the habitat they are trying to protect not individual species - grey nurse sharks excepted. Take Lake Macquarie as the perfect example - get rid of the pros and create a Marine Park - which areas do they look like trying to protect - the seagrasses and mangroves. Habitat areas!
It is quite easy to protect fish species - just add them to the list of protected species, it is much harder to protect habitat, hence the Marine Park.
What a ****e fite.
I still dont see how a rec fishing ban will help protect the habitat. Dont tell me the greens have convinced the Government it will, please !

You're right Grant a rec fishing ban won't go far to protect the environment, but it will help a labour govt win the 2007 state election.
The greens get their Marine Parks and the Labour Gov't gets the greens preferences. Simple mathematics particularly in marginal seats with a liberal party intent on self destruction.
I totally agree with your philosyphy on these issues Bluecod.
Being hard headed and expecting no marine parks, ALL pro activity to cease and generally for these groups to 'go away' is a doomed approach and a loosing arguement. I have said that many times on FR.
Your approach is the right one in my mind, where an acceptance of these groups is made because in reality they will never go away, and the middle greenies who generally are looking out the environemt make some valid claims.
Compromise is the key so everyone benfits but there seems to be a lack of this from the rec side perhaps with a lot of hard headed no compromise people. I hope the ECOFISHERS group can work some magic. Someone needs to give an informative alternate view instead of just jumping up and down.
I do respect the fact the TFP at least are in their having a go, cause there is no one else, but have always had trouble with their approach.
Like you have said they do a bit of 'chestbeating' and you only here from them when a decision has been made and they wish to sound off about it, trying to gather support that way. There are better ways youd think, but i cant knock them too much cause they are doing something.
Well see i suppose
What about in Byron where there's a marine park with the pro's circling the perimeter.
It shown what lunacy these ideas are.

I suppose its like the old saying goes, you cant please all of the people all of the time. What ever you do to please one group is going to upset another. Balance must be found.
What is the answer to that Byron problem ?Who knows. No matter what is done someone will lose out, and of the two groups involved both seem to have more clout than rec fisho's currently do.
Its just not a realistic expectation that the Pro's or the Marine Parks completely vanish cause its just not going to happen. We really need come to terms with that and look at alternatives and compromise.
