Hey im 14 and i was speaking to one of me mates and we thought why dont we get a boat, but then we realised we dont have the money to buy one decked out! so i thought if we brought a simple tinnie and added the floors, rod holders, casting platforms etc. so this is why i am here im asking if any of u have done it before and how easy is it? how much did your project cost you? and ideas on how to get cheap resources?

thanks

:smiile: its always worth decking out your tinny yourself, my first advice is to take out the tinny with nothing in it and have a little play in the water. a boat fishes different when its in the water than when at home on the trailer, next is the floor, if its a small floor area then a removable floor is best, that way you can get away with non weather proof floor board (Ply wood not chip board) if you know a bricky or you folks do, hit them up for an old bricky's board and paint it with the parents old house paint. the rod holders are easy to make up, get on to a plumber and get the off cuts of about 40mm pipe also they should help you out with some saddles to mount them with. the cheapest live bait tank is an old esky or kitchen bin and a small filling bucket (don't forget the old aquarium net to catch the livy's in the bucket)
Lastly remember "if its for free its for me" its amazing what people will give you if you ask "nicely"
Hope this helps you get started

Sorry mate its hard to say where the best deals are at the moment, just keep your eye's out for them on the private market. the main thing to look for is a good motor, tinny's are very durable even a 20 - 30 year old hulls will work a treat. check out a few boats at the dealers first and get a feel for what style your after , eg shallow hull, deep hull, V punt or flat bottom.
With regards to the motor make sure you have no trouble starting them i.e. you said your about 14, a 30 horse power motor might be a bugger to get going in the cold.
Depending on your fishing area my suggestion would about a 10 - 14 foot tinny with a 8 - 15 horse power motor.
Good luck

Tom. I have a proposition for you.
I have a 12 foot flat punt I don't use any more, 6 hp johnson motor sitting on a rough unregistered trailer.
You could take this outfit, use it for a while deck it out to your liking do what you want with it. If you are happy after say 3 months you could then buy it from me.
Price would have to be negeotiated before you took possetion of it.
It would 1 give you a platform to fish out of 2 you could learn how to fit & fix things.
Price at this stage would be somewhere around $600. But I would like you to be happy with it before giving me any payment, hence the 3 months trial.
If you find it is not what you want after this period, I will take it back without any obligations. Any work you do to it during that perion would be at your expence.
Don't think I can be any fairer then that.
If it might be what you are looking for, get in touch with me.

Rowdey. Young Tom didn't take me up on my offer, and now I believe he has a nice little boat, so all is well.
