The head is spinning now as the fishing gets even better, what a spring!
Four guys who had not done a lot of fishing on Jigs come out with us for a week long trip and absolutely brain it!
Snapper to 9kg, all the boys cracked 20Kg's on the kingfish on jigs, with doubles of monster fish the norm at the Aldies.
John topped the 30kg mark with a huge fish and if that wasn't enough the boys went hard and topped .........
100 KINGFISH IN A DAY.!!!!
The bigger fish were caught at the Aldies with fish hell bent on smashing jigs up hard high in the water column, but the last day for the numbers we blasted up to the Mercs from Tairua and the bait and numbers of kingfish up there were unbelieveable.

What an awesome trip, I have never heard of 100kings in a day before!
When were you over?
Couldn't help but notice you were drinking probably the worst beer in the world though (ranfurly draught)! Did you blow all you cash on the trip?

Hey mate, nah i will pm you some details of average cost etc .. prety good trip.. and all the kings were average 12-15 kilo on the 100+ day...
its now the score to beat on the dudes boat .. hehe..
Yeah well we met some aussies over there, they were on the other epic boat (they have 2 so you can go in a group of 8 or 9)
we swapped 6 livies for 6 beers.. then when john got the big 30+ monster they sent the rest of the case our way.. by that stage though, we were all sore, tired, hot and salty and they went down not too bad.. kinda like cider mixed with beer :)

Hey mate, what a trip.
Me and my family are heading over to New Zealand next year, and when i get some spare time i want to get dad to take me fishing, and that looks like so much fun. :eeek: Might have to go to the Gym for a year just to get ready. :1yikes:
What's the rough cost for a day trip ? We might only have a day spare or two as we are heading over the for my sisters softball rep team, they are playing some games over there or some crap like that, wasn't listening.
Cheers

Epic is the best way to describe it eh.
Couldn't believe how hard even the small ones pull (small being 10kg+).
It's bloody hard work though. Jig all day then you get nailed and have to fight to hold onto the rod and bring the fish up, then when you think its over you have to hold the bloody thing up for a photo or ten. Oh and then if you are really lucky as you are throwing it back in it will smack you in the face with its tail. haha. my ear was ringing for about 15min after that happened.
We will definitely be going back asap.
Here is another video.
